Interesting. I had no idea there were ecclesiastical courts n' stuff. What happens if he's found guilty?
excommunication. He would have to publically reconsile himself to the teachings of the Church to have it lifted.

Of course... A layman...

I think there's probably more to it than simply protecting the teachings of the Church here. Personally I think this guy has some bit of political motive. But of course, I could be wrong, as humans often are.

Nope, his complaint is valid and in keeping with the Catholic faith.

It seems very political. There are very public -priests- and -bishops- who openly publish books and preach against the Catholic Church. LIke Fr. McBrien who openly dessents and published his book Catholicism which calls into question the RESSURECTION, why of all people are htey decided to make a point and excommunicate Kerry to make some political point and try to influence the election?

I see - correct me if I'm wrong here, but unless he "repents" and changes his position (and I honestly think he won't), isn't that tantamount to sending him to hell?

Unless any of us repent for our grave sins, aren't we in danger of hell? Excommunication is just a heads up that you've made a big mistake.

Excommunication places someone outside of the church, and outside of the church there is no salvation. Additionally, confession will be placed outside of Kerry's reach. It is true - Kerry is in danger of hell, but the church seems to be actively participating in the process of sending him there, no?
