My girlfriend (who i hope to marry) lives in Japan and was never taught much of God or Christianity and she isn't a member of any religion but recently she's become very interested in religion, especially Christianity. The first time i tried to teach her about God and the Bible, she became uninterested and i think that was my fault. First of all, i don't think there are alot of resources out there to help her learn much about Christianity, I don't think there are any churches in her area and only a small percentage of Japan is Christian.
I prayed to God to help her and to help me show her the way, Then the next day, she said she was interested again. So i now have the opportunity to teach her again. I've encouraged her to find a Bible and to study it with me and to learn what she can on our faith and i've been teaching her about God and Christ, but i think i'm not very good with words and i don't know where to begin. How do you think i should go about teaching her? What should i start with? What kind of things should i teach first and second and so on?
If you have any detailed advice or just a few tips, i would very much appreciate it.
Thanks.

You can find free Bibles on the internet. Not just online Bibles, but they'll mail you one. It might be a good idea to send her a Bible (maybe even a study Bible) to begin with.

I started out learning about Christianity (other than what my husband told me) by reading a study New Testament by Billy Graham. It has this whole section in the front of "things Christians believe" which essentially tells you where to look in the Bible to learn about certain things. It's very nice, and it was free. I'm sure you can find something similar online.

Other than that, I've heard that the first time you read the Bible, you should read the Gospel of John or Mark, then Acts or Romans, then an OT book like Genesis or Psalms or Proverbs.

Also, I find that sometimes other people in church know these stories from the Bible because they grew up in the church, and I just have no clue. While The Message isn't great as a study Bible, I like it for when I just want to read a story and have a basic understanding of what happened.

In my experience, people are too diffrent to give this sort of advice about. People learn, and react to this sort of thing in very diffrent ways. Some take it from a very theological or aplogetic stance and that's what works best. Some it works the best to blindly jump into faith head first. Some take the biblical aproach. I can't really say what would work well. What I will encourage you to do is try to get her to ask you questions. When you know what she is interested in, it becomes easier to steer the person in the right direction. Best thing to do is pray, which you are doing. Have faith in the Lord to bring her around, and do what he asks you to do. Good luck and I'll be praying for both of you.
