  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My grandparents and parents are broke this year as far as Christmas goes and so we are going to do our usual celebrations, but wait on gift-giving. I suggested to my parents that we might wait until Sat. Jan. 6th to celebrate on the Orthodox date of Jesus's birth if presents were so important to them (the elders of the family just want to get gifts for us young'uns). I have wanted to get something for my dad, though, since he has been reading the Bible (oh, that reminds me, I have a story to share with you all... I'll write it up in the devotionals). First choice is a Bible with his name imprinted on it and second is a study help or devotional book. I don't have enough to get him a really fancy Bible, but if anyone knows where I could get a decently priced Bible from a place that does name imprinting (or has study guide/devotional suggestions), please post here.

Thank you and God bless,

Lissa

Here is a MacArthur Study Bible. Its the same as mine only this one is a hardback. The notes are wonderful and would be especially great and informative if he is new at reading scripture as great explanations are present. The one listed in the 'used' ones is actually new and available for 12.47
Not sure what you're looking for so hope this is helpful! I love mine!

I've always liked the Scofield chain reference; though I don't agree with the covenant & dispensation system described in the footnotes I really don't think it's that distracting.

Sproul's Geneva Study Bible has impressed me, too. I think it's rebranded the "Reformation Study Bible" now.

www.cbd.com often has deals on particular Bibles.

The Reformation Study Bible is great. I have one in NKJ; my wife's is ESB. I think the Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible would be worth looking at, as well. It is NIV, but it has some good special features...

In-text theological articles on topics relevant to Reformed believers; Extensive theological and study notes; Side-column cross references; Section and book introductions & outlines; In-text maps, charts, & graphs; Concordance; 14 color Maps; and the complete text of the following: Heidelberg Catechism, Westminster Confession, Westminster Larger Confession, Westminster Shorter Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dort.

I've never seen one, personally, but I hear good things from those who have one.
