  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Suggestions for guidelines

All the above are great guidelines. I am thankful to be a part of the time and try to carry out my duties responsibly. It pains me not to be able to help ALL the pets that are ill, hungry, etc., but if I take more than I can care for, then I may not be able to help them all stay at full health. I try to take care of my pets without taking from the hospital, but am relieved that the option is available. It is good to see so many people using their talent on the cf forum to help teach responsible pet ownership. kudos to you.

Happy you and the few other rescuers that are posting and participating are helping with making the guidelines. Just wish could get the other rescuers who have been on and takingcare of their pets to participate.... Maybe after all the holidays and people get back into normal life we can write everything up...

Any other thoughts as to what Pet Rescuers should be doing??

I like rescuing pets and getting them adopted, but I'm kind of leery of where parts of this seem to be going.

First of all, I don't want to be "Big Brother" checking up on my fellow CF pet owners twice a week. I am more than happy to help anyone feed their pet who has trouble doing so, and I've made the offer on numerous occasions. But "checking up" on people seems invasive and a bit over the top to me. That's just my personal take on this.

I have no trouble reporting donations. In most cases I've donated the back to the person who sent them to me--usually a person who has gotten a pet from me. I am a prolific poster under my other CF name and I have had no problem funding my CF pet work from that SN. Personally, I would rather just pass them on to DoctorCF, as I don't need them and think that she could better distribute them as they are needed among the pet rescuers. I stated a "Thank you" thread for those whose donations I do accept. I think that the "Thank you" thread or something similar would be the best way to maintain accountability for donations. It's in the open and everyone can see what's up.

I do think that letting DoctorCF know each time that a pet is adopted out is a great idea. There should be some sort of history of how pet rescue has placed pets.

I also like the idea of letting DoctorCF know when we've helped someone adopt a pet and an adopter has turned around and sold a pet or when someone abuses help. In any group of people there will be a very few who "work the system." I like to help those who have genuine need to keep their pets. But we also need to know who might just be getting pets for resale to fatten up their own CF accounts. This would best be co-ordinated through a central person, and DoctorCF seems the logical person to do this.

What we are doing is great--saving the CF pets. But there is always a danger in organizing something that one might over organize it and turn it into an onerous "chore" or get on other people's nerves--all people have that tendency to get carried away at times. I think that once things are set up that we can just step in and feed other's pets when we see a need this will be less of a danger. I'll be very happy when that happens--it's a lot easier to be happy when someone's fed your dog a meal than when they contact you and tell you that your dog needs to eat, even if they're being nice about it and offer to give you the blessings for the food.

I'm very happy that I'm not seeing as many pets deleted at the end of the month. I would really love if we could have a link on the "Create a pet" page that would encourage people to consider adopting an existing CF pet as an alternative to creating a new one.

It's all new. There are bound to be mistakes and glitches. But so far, several pets have been given new homes and are being well cared for, and that's a great thing!

Ok if you have no other thoughts about what a pet rescuer should be doing let's move on to qualifications of a Pet rescuer.... What are your thoughts?? These are a few items we need to talk about. I only bring these up because they have already been asked.... feel free to add your own and talk about ones listed.... please be specific in why and why not....

1. Should be here at CF at least 6 months ??
2. Should already have a pet and able to keep it healthy for certain amount of time??
3. Should be active with posting??
4. Able to get along with others without picking a fight??
5. Should have a waiting and training time to learn how to be a rescuer??
6. Should be able to be on-line every day or two??
7. Should have rescued at least one pet or more with personal ID?
8. Should not have started own Rescuers ID ( they can use that ID to rescue pets, will talk about that later as a different team).
9. Should be a Christain??
10. Should not be on list as person using us to get blessings by adopting pet at lower price and placing same pet up for adoption at higher price !!!!!
11. Should have an application to fill out to apply for Postition of Pet Rescuer??

I'd fail #1.

Do we keep an actual list of people who are selling back adopted pets immediately for profit?

Keep in mind these are all things different members have asked me about, none are orginally my idea. That is why I think we need to talk about all these things.

I know for a mod position you do have to be here 6 months. Do you think we should also have that as a guideline for new rescuers?? should it be more or less then 6 months?? Should there be exceptions to it?? This isn't about passing or failing, is about what do we want for qualifications?? Most all were choosen and accepted as pet rescuers because someone vouched for you.... and most of you was already known for rescuing pets....

Yes I am also keepng a list. I do not want to embarress anyone but if they become a bigger problem I will send the list to each rescuer asking not to adopt pets to them. But if you as rescuers do not send me names then I can not add them and I only know the ones I have dealt with... That is why I asked for the PM be forwarded to me when it happens to each of you...

I think these guidlines sound good.... I think being on line everyday is a bit much but every two days is good. I do think someone should have a pet to see how they take care of it wether it be there own or we can let them adopt on and keep it for a certain amount of time..... How long would the waiting and traing time be??

I think you've done a good job at the quidelines...

Does it count as a donation if we fund our petrescuer account from our other non-petrescuer account?

Or should only donation from other members (other than myself) to my petrescuer account be recorded?

Thats a good question cause I've done the same.......
