  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Death of the West, by Patrick J. Buchanan.

Even if you don't agree with all of Pat's ideas, his book is an epiphany for those who know something's wrong but can't put it all together into a coherent whole, and it's a bucket of cold water in the face of those who think nothing has changed in the West since 1980.

I'm presently reading "Prey of the Priest Catchers," which is about the Catholic Church in England after Henry VIII.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...98239/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/102-5072658-4336915

The faith of these martyrs is incredible, and inspiring. The book is an easy read, and I'm sure it leaves out many details, but you cannot help but be impressed at the sheer number of priests who willingly returned to England knowing they faced certain death if discovered.

One question I do have, though, is that the book mentions "secular priests." What in the world is that? To me, it sounds like someone saying, "Chevy Ford."

Explanations, anyone?

Peace be with you,

CatholiCity dot com puts out a number of tapes. The ones by Father Larry Richards are excellent (I have not listened to any of the others, but if they're half as good as the ones by Fr. Larry then they are definitely worth it):

1)Confession
2)The Mass Explained
3)The Truth

VOW, a secular priest is a priest who is not a member of a religious Order. He is assigned to a regular parish and is answerable to the bishop of the diocese, whereas an Order priest is answerable to the superior of his order. I don't know why they call them "secular" priests, but there you go. :)

Vow: actually they are answerable directly to their local bishop. Order priests especially the Jesuits are more directly answerable to the Pope than a secular or diocesan priest. Half of the purpose of the early mendicant orders – namely the Dominicans and the Franciscans and later the Jesuits – was to bring the “church” more under Rome’s direct control at the cost of a local bishops authority.

I'll try to remember later to post the name of a great book concerned with catholic History which you can easily find.
