Can't tell if you're kidding or not with the last line, but, no, it's based on a Christian thriller book, not the TV show.
And I wouldn't write the movie off because of its R rating... The Passion of the Christ also had an R rating. Like I said...I haven't seen the movie.
Well, I have just seen the movie, and must comment towards the blind ignorance of saying any movie rated R can't possibly be Christian. Is that paranoia or reasonable thinking? Last I checked, our faith was based on the latter.
It was based on the book by Dekker and Perretti who are known to have somewhat more graphic content with blood, death, and murder. House is no different. (Notice I left gore off there)
Truly, the movie should have been rated PG-13... oh, wait, no, just realized why it was rated R. Something to do with the final climax. Won't give it away. But for the most part it's fairly suitable for even squeemish Christians.
That said, I found it to be not that good, shot poorly with 2-D characters. A lot of camera tricks like in Hot Fuzz to speed up and slow down the action but tried done digitally as opposed to a hand-cranked unit.
Other than 'House', there are some other Christian movies you can check out I didn't see listed:
- Hidden Secrets
- One Night With The King
If you have a Family Christian Bookstore closeby, they will have an assortment not only of Christian movies but of Christian-friendly movies (such as Everybody's Hero). Worth a look?
When viewing popular culture from Christian nations, I see a lot of Christianity hidden behind most of it -- one has to winnow out the symbols, however the "bad" to "get that".
This is why popular culture - information - from Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, and Communist nations just does not make it wide and far. They have no deep understanding like we do here.
Granted, I understand this can challenge some. But, I find they may need to be challenged, because it is sinful to judge as evil what is good.
Addressing the itch of curiosity, would this include movies such as 'Bruce Almighty' and 'Evan Almighty'? While secular and containing questionable (read as 'logically realistic') there are direct Christian morals and parallels. Not trying to put down but curious. Honestly I think it gets some Word out better than Christian movies do.
