  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a huge problem. I don't get why should believers sugar coat the truth about Christ to them. Why? So they can still get their way. Or So that we can get our way in bringing souls to Christ. I don't think we should ever sugar coat the word of God to anyone, including for ourselves. We are all born sinners according to the bible. However, God gave us his son to die for the sins of the whole world to be reconcile back to him, all he asks us to do is believe in his son. Die to self and allow him to become the Lord of your life. Why is it most people think that non-believers who have reject Christ will get a free ride and still go to heaven when the bible says point blank, unless you are born again you cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Jesus said also, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh to the Father but by me. The bible also says, whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. There are conditions that we must follow to enter into the kingdom of heaven. If non-believers go to heaven just because they are good and do good things, then salvation, Jesus dying on the cross, and witnessing to win souls to Christ would have been for nothing. The bible and God himself isn't going to Sugar coat anything for us. His word is true and his word will always stand.

So now that I've gotten that off my chest, what do you think. Do you agree? If not, share why and find scriptures to back up your disagreement.

That is why I don't particularly like "blind" witnessing. There is no follow-up, no discipleship. Our actions are a stronger witness, especially when things go bad for us and we don't blame God and instead stick to Him like glue. One of my good friends from middle school caught me on Facebook the other day right before I left for church. She was in a bad car accident that shattered her ankle and she's in a halo. She asked for me to have my congregation pray for her. Talk about perseverance.

Don't sugar coat it, love coat it :)

Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ

That's cute. lol

Some "sugar-coating" is necessary when talking to someone who has no knowledge of God. It's easy to chase someone away with talk of sanctification, or living holy, or submission, for instance. Just as you learn letters before you learn to read, unbelievers must not only be first taught the truth of Christ's love and sacrifice, but also must be UN-taught all the crud that the world has told them about Christianity.

Part of the problem is the TV preachers who teach that all you have to do is believe and God will make you rich and powerful. Oh, and you have to send them seed money. Some of these are obvious scams, and it paints all Christians in a bad light. Of course, some are legit. But the non-legit ones get all the press.

Aibrean, what you said is so true. It is our job to give out information in a persuasive manner. It is the Holy Spirit's job to convict and convert.

There is a way that we should give the message of God and that's with love! Of course this doesn't mean we should refrain from sharing all of God's truth because it might offend someone... we are to "agitate" the conscience through the word of God. Those who have the right spirit will respond.
