Sufferings I offer up that probably shouldn't be considered sufferings.

Billy Graham has passed on. I don't recall him being anti-Catholic, but then, when I was at one of his services... I wasn't Catholic.

Billy Graham seemed to be global in his sermons. There are a lot of anti-Catholic preachers though... especially on TV and it would be easy to confuse them.

And for the record, I'm NOT big on tele-evangelists either. I know it's difficult to have this sort of situation and my heart goes out to you. My dad is anti-Catholic and he digs in whenever he can... I could not imagine what it would be like to have a husband do that... except to pray and pray and pray and be loving and true to him and to my faith.

Christianity is based on Christ and His love and based on this... it is in how we love and in how we treat others, especially, our family and if we can be true to Christ in that way...somehow, I believe the Holy Spirit can move hearts in ways that are a blessing and pleasantly so unexpectedly.

Billy Graham is still alive. He is in his 90's.

I'm pleasantly glad to be wrong. I thought he did pass away... I've always liked him and in so many ways, he helped to spread the gospel, even though, I don't agree with his theology, I did see Christ in him... working in helping others. I always admired him for that.

I'm glad he is still alive. :)

my inlaws are anti catholic. but my husband is open minded and asks questions.

That is a good thing that your husband is open-minded and is asking questions. The true challenge is in knowing how to answer his questions. That to me would beIn difficult.

In-laws are family and one has to be very careful and gentle when it comes to family. Another challenge to pray through and work through and no... it's not fun.

Lord have mercy. You have a full plate.

Praying... and hopefully, in time, your husband will grow in understanding of who you are and how much your faith is apart of you and he will hopefully... have appreciation for the goodness that your faith has given to you because it is a part of you and who you are... the woman he loves.

It's so delicate... trying to balance it all out... but with God's grace and help... it is possible. :)

I hear you...got a fine old cat myself...one of the biggest perks of pregnancy was getting out of that duty for about 8 months per kid.

I was pretty surprised when I worked at a place where they listened to an AM Christian station at how anti-Catholic some of the commentators could be. I remember one show..maybe it was the Bible Answer Man. It was actually sort of engaging the first few times I heard it until I realized that they seemed to lump Catholicism in with the Word of Faith groups, Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses as a group teaching some false doctrines. I hadn't really heard much of anti-Catholic preaching until then, it was pretty surprising.

:preach: This is actually unrelated, but my little guy just jumped up on my lap looking for a snuggle and wanted this guy in the post. He also wants to share a kiss with you all tonight.

I appreacite your responses D'Ann. Tonight I just gave it all up, ya know. I said to myself "I am going to be reasonable, open minded, and quiet when my husband is listening to his radio sermons"

And I will just have to ignore it when an inlaw says something nasty about the church and pray on it. You know so I give it all up. Let go and let God is what my prottie family says so I will take that advice.

Oh yeah, when we were trying to get pregnant I constantly reminded him of that.

Some of it can be but most try to keep it on the down low over the radio.

Yeah his wife Ruth wanted prisoners to make her a simple wooden casket so her hubby arranged it. Do you remember reading about that?

So as Catholics we often hear "Offer it up" when we're suffering or even just slightly annoyed by some problem or burden in our life. I have a list of things that are slight annoyances that I tend to say "God I offer you this suffering" whenever they occur and I realize they should probably not be offered up but here they are.....

1.) When my husband flips on a Protestant radio station and a screamy radio preacher is hollerin about something from the bible and it doesn't make any sense. So I say "This screaming idiot doesn't make any sense." And my husband says "yeah but i feel what he means" as if the whole purpose of the Christian faith is to look into the bible, sit around in a pot circle and scream about nothing. Then hubby gets mad at me and says I'm not Christian enough because I don't follow some moron preacher. In another post on this thread I will go ahead and give you guys a lay out of what this idiot was screaming about. If you get high first you might understand...I think he was high when he was giving his sermon.

2.) Kids bible songs....my husband turns them on and plays them and I get an instant headache. Children and a woman singing stupid repetitive love songs to God. "Lil Boy Blue come blow your horn, hallelujah" or something like that. and they say that like 45 times....

3.) When my husband turns the station from secular rock music to contemporary rock Christian music. Today it was DCtalk or something and none of the words made a lick of sense. and i do not do not like christian rock music. So according to my husband that means I'm not very Christian because Jesus aint my boyfriend and Noah aint my brother.

I'd rather listen to secular music than christian contemporary music. sorry peeps. :sorry:
LOL

Sounds like the real problem is your husband! lol

Anyway, if you suffer from it...it's suffering. Doesn't matter what it is. I suffer from diabetes and severe panic disorder, but when I go to get blessings from my priest....I'm shown up by terminally ill patients with cancer and things that are hard to treat. So I feel like I'm complaining about a headache thanks to them.

I know exactly how you feel. Just tune out those voices that say 'hey, there are people in the world that suffer much more than you do....DON'T COMPLAIN. God doesn't have time for it.'. God always has time for you. No matter what the cause or complaint. The devil just wants to keep you from praying so you can't get closer to God. Don't listen to him.

If you see it as suffering, offer it up and ask God for a way out. Who cares if someone suffers greater than you? (well, we should always pray for those who are more unfortunate than we are, but it shouldn't put you down by thinking you're not worthy of God's graces, too)

One day....I'll follow my own advice....:/
