Suffering is getting 'closer' to Jesus??

Hi there. For a long time I never understood it when beleivers said they get closer to Jesus when they suffer. I didnt understand it at all. It made absolutely no sense to me and wasnt a reality to me in my life. But having been trialed and seasoned I now know what this means. And I have a better choice of words for this phenomena. I dont think you get 'closer to Jesus' I believe you LEARN Jesus. Getting closer sure, but better yet, learning him. Jesus lived a life full of suffering and sorrow. So when we go through hardships and suffering we UNDERSTAND HIM better, and we ..beautifully...become ONE with Him. We KNOW Him. We suffered WITH Him We are One with Christ. And when we have future trials we can rest in peace knowing that 'the righteous have many trials, but the Lord delivers Him out of them all." He is good. He is faithfull. And when we go through trials, we become Like Jesus. Because he was a man of suffering. He wants to be one in you..in a sense you are like a 'little Jesus' becuase of your walk. You are a son of God. And you must live the life He lived on this earth. The good thing about suffering is that you really, really apreciate the good and blessings in life. Its true- you dont know what you have until you dont have it. Everytime you resort to memories or residue of the pain youve been through. You can instantly connect it to christs suffering. Its like a switch. Suffering..hey thats Jesus! I am now closer to Jesus through suffering. And I have learned him. It is Gods will that you KNOW Him. ANd through it all, you will Know Him. I know that, dear =)

That makes me feel better. Yes suffering is where we know Jesus' sufferings. There are people that have suffered worse than Jesus' cross death, taking out the atonement. There are worse deaths than a cross.

And Jesus suffered spiritually i think as he was momentarilly forsaken by God. He suffered emotional pain and loneliness

And Jesus suffered spiritually i think as he was momentarilly forsaken by God. He suffered emotional pain and loneliness

That's what I think makes him Jesus.

We do grow in faith through the good as well as through the bad, yet we do grow more when going through trials. When life throws the worst at you, and you go through several difficulties as a Christian.

James 1:2-4

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

We should also rejoice and be thankful during our good times, yet, isn't this easy for most everyone to do? But if you can rejoice and be thankful during bad times, not many can manage doing this! Paul was content in every circumstances.

Philippians 4:11-13

"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength."

The enemy will always try to steal away your joy. This is why we need to keep our eyes fixated on Jesus as well as reminding ourselves of His Truth. Beleiving in and trusting in what He says through His Word. The enemy will also try destroying this part for us too, so we need to fight against the lies and remember to keep on reminding ourselves of His Truth. Jesus Christ also used the Word when He got tempted by satan in the wilderness, and satan used the Word in a twisted form against Him.

This also reminds me of a poem I wrote not so long ago with this same topic as well, which I thought I could share with you in here. :)

.Learning from my Lord Jesus Christ.

I want to learn from my Lord Jesus Christ,
I want to learn from Him through my sufferings.
Learn to know Him better,
learn to becoming more like Him.

I want to cry,
because of my difficulties.
I want to cry,
because of my ongoing sinning.
Which at this point I can't stop,
I feel so stuck in all of this.

Yet I know my God is greater,
and nothing is impossible for Him!
He can break through in my struggles,
He can free me out from this!
There is nothing which my God cannot do,
so this is why I can say for sure;
He is my deliverer and Almighty God!

Learning can be hard,
it is also painful.
Still I don't want to give up,
and I want to continue going the path He has set before me.
I want to remain on the narrow way ,
leading me to my Lord's eternity also made for me!
