I wasn't sure which forum this belongs in, so I will place it here for now. :)

This happened about 6 months ago, but it's a pretty neat story.

We had just recently moved into our new home and we were still doing some unpacking. For Christmas, the previouse year, we had purchased a knife set that was advertised on an infomercial. They had a buy-1-get-1 special at the time so we bought 2 to give as a gift and one for ourselves. As I was unpacking these knives, I was mocking the fact that each knife had a cardboard piece on them to protect the blade with the words "CAUTION: KNIVES ARE SHARP" in big, red. bold letters. Of course, we all know how things work, while in the midst of my mocking, I pull one of the knives out of the cardboard and make a nice, deep slice in the palm of my hand.

I wrap a towel on my hand an proceed to the ER to get some stitches put in. It was a busy day at the ER and mine was not a "life-threatening" injury so my wait was a little long. I had brought a long a book that I had been reading for work: L.E.T. - Leadership Effectiveness Training. I had been taken to a room to get prepped for the repairs. I was in there for a while so I was reading my book to pass the time. The nurse came in to clean the wound and get me ready and noticed the book I was reading. She asked if I was taking a class for it. She told me about how she had taken an L.E.T. course in college and that it had seemed like years ago. I mentioned that it was for work and that it was something that I was going to be taking some courses on. She mentioned that the school her daughter was attending had some classes available for people who wanted to attend them on a part-time basis if I was interested. I said I would look into it to see if it would work for me. Then she let out a big sigh and mentioned that she wished she knew how her daughter was. My next logical step was to dig a little deeper and asked if there was a problem with her daughter. She continued to tell me about how her daughter had been up at school, but she hadn't heard from her in quite a while. She was worried that she may have been struggling with her classes and with work and all that stuff. She mentioned that she had left messages for her daughter, but none of them had been returned as of yet.

As she was telling me about this, I could see that her eyes were beginning to well up. I asked if it would be all right if i prayed for her and her daughter. She said that would be fine. I reached out to grab her hands and she replied ina startled manner, "You mean right now?". I said, "Yes, right now". I then held her hands and just prayed asking for God to continue watching over her daughter while she was away, keeping her safe and whatnot. I also asked that God would find away for her to get confirmation that everything was good with her daughter so that she could be at peace. When I finished praying, she thanked me while wiping away tears. She finished cleaning my wound and went on her way. The Dr. came in a few minutes later and fixed me all up.

I figured the story ended there. I felt that I had done what God had needed me to do. That was the first time I had ever prayed for someone I did not know, and also the first time that I had initiated the praying. I had never prayed for someone else and ever received confirmation back that prayers had been answered, until now.

A few days later, I was sitting at work and my phone rang. There was the female voice on the other end that was just sobbing. (this was not the normal type of phone call I recive at work :) ) She said her name was Nancy and that she was the one who had cleaned up my hand in the ER the previous weekend. She had called me because she had received a call from her daughter the evening before. Her daughter talked about how she wasn't sure why, but over the weekend she had gotten this feeling that her mother was worried about her. She said that she had heard what sounded like a voice just telling her to call her Mom. She ignored it at first, but it was so persistent that she called in the hopes that this would end it.

This lady continued to thank me over and over for the prayer that I said. When she told her daughter what had happened, they were both totally in shock about how things had transpired. The nurse also continually apologized for going through my records to find a phone number so that she could call me, but she really felt a need to thank me for my prayers. She said that she had been a believer for most of her life, but that this has helped her to see that there is more to it than just believing. We need to be seekers and followers as well.

Now, I realize that this story doesn't have any miraculous healings, but I still found some amazing things here. Just think, both this nurse and her daughter now know the power of prayer and now how real it is. This would have been the case, whether she had called to tell me about it or not. This just made me realize how significant of an impact we can have on those around us, even when we don't realize it. I left the hospital that day thinking, I hope she will be all right and that she will hear from her daughter. But that was where my concern had ended. I had hoped that my prayers would have given her some peace with her situation and some support to cope with it. It did so much more than that!!!!

Wow! That is an awesome story! I never cease to be amazed at how God puts us in the right place at the right time and works through us if we all but open ourselves up to Him and listen to that still, small voice.

Thanks for sharing!
