  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Meh, it depends.
If the voice over's look good, then I prefer those. If it looks awful..eg, dialog after the lips have stopped moving, then I prefer the subs.

I find I take too long reading the subtitles when what I really want to be doing is staring at the movie..espically when it's FF7:AC..cuz' Seph just looks sooo good! :p

Subb is the preferred method, but sometimes the dub companies get together a good english version (just not all that often).

Generally the obvious choice has got to be subtitles because dubbing can just be ridiculously annoying but they do sometimes do a good job like in Princess Mononoke. Although you dont always get the actual message in some films no matter what as the subtitles and the dubbing can be totally different!

I prefer Japanese (with subs since I can't understand enough Japanese to do without them) because a) I tend to like the voices of the seiyuu better b) I also tend to appreciate manga/anime more the closer it is to the original and c) I absolutely cannot stand some of the English voice actors they get, particularly after watching the Japanese.

Although I have no quarrel with Inuyasha in English - probably like it just as much that way as in Japanese.

I don't match much anime. However, from what I've experienced, I would have to say that subbed shows are better off than dubbed. The only problem with many subbed showed is that the fanlations of the dialogue are often too literal.

However, there are some dubbed shows that are actually very, very well done, such as Naruto (anime only on that very favorable comment; the manga translation is a bit iffy, but understandable).

Normally, I prefer dubs. I like to watch the show instead of read it. However, I will switch to Japanese audio/English subs when either the option of English audio isn't available (read: fansubs) or when the acting is just bad (I mean Weiß Kreuz levels of horrible, even though I *somehow* managed to watch that entire first disc in English, but I was on the verge of tears the entire time with just how bad it is - still haven't gotten the rest of the series - however, not even watching the Japanese would have helped; from what I remember, that acting was pretty bad too).

Part of it may be that when I started watching anime, it was only broadcast as dubbed (and these were the mid-90s, Streamline dub days), of course not much has changed in that regard, but my tolerance for a so-so or stereotypical dub is fairly high. I was also raised watching the classic dubbed Godzilla movies, so I think that probably also contributes to my very lax view of dubs.
