So here's my silly new obsession...it makes me mad, because OCD always seems to hit in the place that matters most to you at the time.

So I was thinking about taking some art classes next fall (I have some natural talent and do a lot of drawings, but never took any classes), and I was really looking forward to it. Then the thought pops into my head, "Well, what if the second commandment (about not making graven images or likenesses) really means that we aren't to make any drawings or paintings of people or things at all?" Whereas I had always assumed before that it just meant don't make idols to worship.

So I was very mad at myself...I get so frustrated lately with my obsessions...and it just is so silly, and yet it won't get out of my head. I've been taking Luvox for about five weeks now, and it doesn't seem to be helping at all.

Just ignore them maybe you can make something beautiful for the Lord

Tulip Girl ... Im going to suggest something that might sound horrible but i think in this case it might help ..

Ignore whether it is right or wrong and do it anyway ..

Don't try to reason about it ..just do it ..

If God is displeased with you and if you are a Christian he will let you know for certain .

Do you realize how many people have been blessed and even came to know Christ partly because of drawings , perhaps they were illeterate , perhaps like me they were a lazy reader ..perhaps they were a child ..think of the thousands of picture books for children used iin sunday schools

Also if you draw landscapes , you can bring to mind fond memories of home, childhood , country and God ..

do it anyway ..

I have noticed something in what you wrote that I notice in OCD people(including myself), and that is:Because of our fears, we have a tendency to over think a matter and,therefore, create an un-sound doctrine(usually a doctrine of condemnation) for ourselves. That is what I had done and now I have been stuck in those condemnations. Your original thought of the matter was correct. God just does not want us to create something(an idol) and then worship it. The key word is "worship". You are not worshipping an idol. You are worshiping The Lord. The drawing is just a way of you expressing the talent that God has given you. So go with your first and original understanding of the matter, because the second one is not correct. The first view is looking at the Spirit of the matter(which is correct), the second view is looking at the letter(of the law) matter(which is not correct).I have to keep telling myself that also. Thank you and God bless you. By the way I am in no way judging you at all. I am empatizing with you. God be with you.
