  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the Catholic doctrines, you are going to have to dig for this, but the Pope is the current "Christ on this earth".

Why don't you save us some time and show us where you found this info? If you found it on, say, the Vatican's web site ("I, JP2, am Jesus") then I'll give it some creedance. On the other hand, if you found it on an anti-Catholic site where the papacy is compared to the worship of the fish-god Dagon....

When I became a Christian I had no knowledge of the Bible. I came from the Soviet Union at that time (atheistic state). I thought that the Bible was written by some priests. Bur I always respected the book.
I practically became a Christian from a couple of verses of Christ. They made a deep inpact on me. But I could not understand the rest.
Then I called a number on TV and prayed with a guy (Leo) to receive Chrisat as my Savior.
Then everything "somehow" came together and I found a family that was counseling me and a perfect church for me at the time.
That was 13 years ago.
I teach the Bible now.

Thanks,
Ed

I don't think so.
Even if you were to twist the meaning of Vicar to mean in the place of the son of god,
it is in this context (what Catholics believe) meaningless, being outside the church of mrcrow.

i thought this is what the latin title 'vicarius filii dei'..(in the place of the son of god)..meant?

who thought the title up..?

I would take it to mean

Representative of the Son of God

It is usually anti-Catholics that imprint a meaning on the phrase that it was not intended to portray in order to portray their foes in a negative light. The safe thing to do would be to ask those who coined and use the phrase the intent of such, rather than gather the meaning from internet sites that seek to attack Catholicism.

sorry
i could have gotten that from a catholic source..i will check..
but no intention on that score was intended...representative sounds fine to me.
the term
vicarious=suffered or done by one person as a substitute for another
but that is not latin...and the etymological interpretation isnt meant to be religious...
i will stick with this one..
