So according to John, James might need to love a bit more?

James 3:2
We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

1 John 2:10
Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.

or maybe...is it no longer for someone reborn of Spirit that they make themselves stumble, but to avoid a contradiction, should we consider external influences that can make a true Christian still stumble?

It looks like two different Greek words. One problem I have with translations is the differing Hebrew/Greek words translated with the same English (or, whatever translational language) word, it somewhat robs the deeper meaning: but it provides a surface understanding; to which is what a translation is intended, I suppose.

But James is talking about being a teacher; as he writes at James 3:1 how teachers have a different responsibility through the tongue, and, speaking to others who can get offended by things taught, and can cause people to stumble over their understanding. On the other hand, John is talking about walking in the "light" of love, and how if you do this you can't "stumble" in the darkness of hate; causing ill will to arise, or, some such other offense through hatred.

I see these passages given to us in general terms. No one of human beings can achieve a full perfect perfection in anything, but we can achieve as much as we can on the level of our human capacity.

Many people see contradiction in some verses of the Bible, and constantly argue about with one another.

I see no contradictions in the Bible at all. In order to understand that the author of the Book trying to say and to teach, it is better to look on entire paragraph or chapter of the Book, and not take the passage out of its context.

We made imperfect, and so whatever we think or do is imperfect. But I believe that our goal on this Earth is to achieve as much perfection as possible in Christ, in order to improve our lives and appear before the Lord as clean as possible.

Have you also considered:

Rom 11.9 And David says:
“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
A stumbling block and a recompense to them.
10 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see,
And bow down their back always.”
11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.

Sounds like the Jews stumbled thinking they could and were the only people of God.
