  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I studied abroad in Leipzig, Germany this summer. Greatest summer ever.
I actually did go to London on my week off and had an amazing time. London is one of my favorite cities, I want to live there one day.

Warning: Once you come back, you'll can't wait to return to Europe. My friends and I already have plans to go back in two years, we're saving money.

That's awesome!!!! When do you leave?

My school has a partnership with one in London and I spent a glorious term studying there when I was 15. It was a fantastic experience. I also studied in Oxford for two summers, and would take the bus up to London sometimes. I think going when you're young is the best because there are so many student and youth discounts. You can even see major West End shows for a fraction of the regular ticket price. There are some travel discounts, too, in addition to inexpensive flights (mainly out of Stansted).

I befriended a heap of people studying at Kings College, UCL and on study abroad programs. I know the most about Yale and FSU's programs there just because I had friends studying with them. If you happen to be studying with them or will be living in the Bloomsbury area you should check out. There's a nice church for Americans living in London in that area, too.

I'd like to study in France and Japan in college. :)

Right after New Year's. :)

Awesome! The Christmas decorations and ice skating rinks are usually still up through the first week or thereabouts of January, and then the famous Harrods sale begins. Even if you're not that into shopping or can't afford it, it's kinda fun to pop in. They often have a parade to kick-start it!

There's really no Unitarian Universalism in England, unfortunately, but maybe I can find a similar interfaith community.

You probably can. And if you're just wanting to socialize with friendly people outside of school you could see if there's still an active college group with the ACL. The youth and college outings were more about community and activities when I was there. Idk what it's like now.

Have a blast! :)

I have not technically studied abroad, but I have been abroad for a month to teach and it was a challenge more rewarding than any other I can think of. :) You experience the culture firsthand and learn so much about the people there firsthand rather than relying on TV portrayals or new portrayals... I've learned so much just by traveling period. Like when the earthquake hit Haiti, I went there with my church. People were telling me it was so devastated there that there were no trees and there were people getting kidnapped off the street. Some of this was nonsense like the trees thing, other parts of it were true, like the kidnapping thing. But seeing it firsthand is priceless, because then you can educate folks in the States about how it really is. The things that the news doesn't tell you about.

I highly recommend traveling/studying abroad!!
