  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When the Florida State Legislature refused to debate gun control in a procedural vote, the Parkland students where there in Tallahassee. In support students in other schools are walking out of class:

The walkout and march echoed similar protests that students across Florida have staged in the days following the Feb. 14 shooting. The teenagers have used the demonstrations and their Twitter accounts to demand government action on gun control to address what has become an all too regular part of life as an American student. (Florida Students March To Stoneman Douglas High To Show Solidarity Over School Shooting. Students have led the debate over gun control in the wake of the shooting. Huffpost)

This appears to be spreading:

“So many people are just so angry about all the things that are going on politically, and most people don’t feel like there is something they can do to make a change,” said Tasha Hipple, a freshman at Casco Bay High School in Portland, who is organizing a walkout there.(Maine students joining national walkout after Florida shootings. Students from at least 5 Maine high schools are taking part in a student-driven movement to protest the gun violence that is claiming lives in schools. Presshearald)

"What legalization could have prevent this students? You need a plan."
The Florida State Legislature could have at least voted to hear a bill banning assault rifles and large-capacity magazines.

People today seem to think behaving badly is evidence of a high moral character.

It isnt.
The Parkland students are protesting at the Florida Statehouse. Students are walking out of other schools in support. I wasn't aware the regressing the government with grievances was now considered immoral.

Exercising your First Amendment right is now bad behavior?

And perhaps it will.
They should at least take up the bill, or they have some major fallout explaining that to a group of highly emotional kids who are still grieving and scared. That might be a little awkward for them.

I see a bunch of teenagers who don't know exactly what they want mark.
I see people who are simply tired of the way things are and desperate for any kind of change. People are frustrated with the constant inaction from our government on an issue that should cause no division or bickering.

I can't say I blame any of them if these students never walk back into a public school again until this problem gets resolved. I wouldn't want to either.
