  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is anyone a memeber of a school newspaper? I'm part of the Lake Orion High School's paper The Archer. I'm the Opinion Editor for the paper and I have some award winning columnist on my staff. Me personally I have not awards for writing, but I have gotten honorable mentions for my layout designs.

Our paper is pretty good and has won some awards but recently has come under fire from the administration with censorship. Anyone else have a problem with this?

I want to be a part of my newspaper on campus here, because for being a university level newspaper it isn't very good... the big thing going on here this semester is that our school might be getting a name change and so it is a big deal here....anyways, they had a big picture on the front page about people signing petitions and buying t-shirts with the first S in SMSU marked out... but no article to follow. I wasn't too happy. Then they write about stuff and it is so unclear. So I wish I could fix that for them...;)

Future print journalist right here! :D

I've been a member of my school newspaper for three years. Right now I'm an editor this year.

I never thought being an editor for a paper could be so tough and time-consuming. But it's all worth it in the end when the paper finally comes out and you see your name in print by the article that you wrote yourself. :)

My newspaper for the first time ever won the PSPA All-State Award this year. Meaning that our paper along with four other school newspapers in the state of Pennsylvania were voted the very best out of the entire state. My advisor told us that you can't get any higher than that. So the others editors and myself were very happy about this when we found out.

Okay I'll stop boasting now. :D ;)

i was on the CRJ at my old school, i wrote stuff. but i was a freshman then

soph year i was rezoned for a new school. i joined the newspaper there. jr year i was on it again. i don't know of any awards -- but then again we are a new school. everyone says they like my articles, but whatever. i don't like the stuff i write. it's nothing important.

as for censorship, we are forced to give a printout of the paper to our Principal before we publish it. He checks it for --stuff--.

stuff being grammar, offensive things etc.

so yeah.

this year, my senior year, i'm not actually enrolled in the newspaper class, but i write articles for them. i'm more experienced in it than anyone else at the school so they come to me for help all the time.

The censorship with our paper is terriable. We recently did an issue about substance abuse in our school and how it was affecting just about everything. The principal had a fit and pulled many of our stories. This wasn't the first time this had happened though, he has pulled stories in the past.

Luckily we have a good relationship with the Student Press Law Center in Virgina. They have offered to give us a hand.
