• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm only 14 and have had a problem with drugs already. I've been clean and sober for two months now and it seems like now I hear a lot more about drugs and how to get ahold of them. Right now I know who I can buy drugs from and where and its sooooo tempting. I even have had some people ask if I'd go make the deal for them. Its sooo hard right now. It feels like I'm falling off a cliff and just hanging on by a branch. I don't know what to do!

HELP!

Just keep hanging on! God loves you and will give you the strength somehow. Do you have anyone in your church that you could turn to? I'm thinking that just talking to them for a while might get you past the itch for the time being. If that fails, then try the '15 more minutes approach'.

To do that, you commit to doing bible study or prayer for the next 15 minutes and try to ignore the urge to go anywhere near drugs or the friends who are trying to lead you back that way. At the end of the 15 minutes, you thank God for the strength to last that long and then choose something else upon which to focus for another 15 minutes. It's like the hymn 'One Day at a Time', but on a shorter time scale.

He will get you through this. I'm praying for you.

Hey Sara,

I won't say that I know what you are going through because everyone is different so I really don't know. But I will say this accountablity is big. I took my first hit at the age of 12 and the only way I got clean was to be accountable to someone. A little over three years ago my accountablity partner's number replaced the number of my dealer in my cellphone. I have slipped a few times but my accountablity partner is always there to help me back up to start the road to soberity again.

I'm really not sure what to say but tell someone you are struggling that can help you along whether it is a pastor, a youth leader, a teacher, or just a trusted adult.

you are in my prayers

Been there, done that. Drugs might seem 'cool' but in reality everyone who is into them wishes they weren't. I wish I never touched any drugs.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, perhaps marijuana. Even so, it's true that it is the gateway to drugs. I started out with it and worked my way up the ladder to hard drugs. My friends and family all did the same thing. If people think drugs are cool and what-not, chances are they aren't the kind of people you should be hanging around anyways. You'll make your own decisions but I'm just telling you -- stay away. You can choose to stay away from any drugs right now, or regret it later. Mark my words.

Good luck.

See... I stole perscription drugs from a friends mother... After getting caught I have been on lock down for 2 months and now I'm starting to get out more... School and home have been the only places I've been too for the past 2 months (which in my opionin I did deserve) but now I'm starting to crave my old life style back... It's like my mind keeps telling me to go get wasted or to go get high... and I'm doing my best not too... but it seems like its getting harder...

There are rough days. Just know that drugs are a temporary fix and anything they help with always seems comes back worse later so it is better to deal with the issues rather than burying them just to have them come back later with vengence.

You are doing so well staying clean keep it up.

It might be worth considering asking for your parents to lock you down for longer. Don't think of it as a punishment, though. Think of it as being very protective of the precious thing that they love--you.
Well... its kinda difficult for me cuz my parents are both alcholics and druggys themselves...

Maybe prescription drugs are not any worse than crystal meth but they are not anything to play with. The most commonly abused ones are the opiates (painkillers) and speaking from experience, they are essentially the same as heroin. I've had my struggles with prescription drugs and I have family members and friends that are currently hooked on Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, etc.. Make no mistake, prescription drugs are the same as any street drug and will eat your soul inside out.

This thread is being reopened. However, if there continues to be discussions of street drugs in this thread it will be closed.

Street drugs are significantly differnet chemically to all prescription medication. This part of CF does not allow the endorcement of street drugs. This is also not the place to debate about anything.

Please be reminded that it is very unsafe to take any prescription medication that you have not been prescribed. We can not approve of any post that endorces this either.

If you have any comments on the content of this Mod Hat, please pm me instead of posting it so that this thread can get back on track.

just wanna say thanks to everyone for all the prayers and to give a bit of an update on how I'm doing now.

Soon I am going to be sharing my life story with my youth group. Its gonna be a little bit different for them since it has a lot of things that deal with drugs and all of the teens that have shared their stories have grown up in christian homes (which isn't a bad thing... but for some reason it just makes me more nervous) Drugs aren't that big of a temptation anymore. I still struggle a little but my prayers and especially all of ya'lls prayers have helped a whole lot. I've learned a lot along the way too. That drugs don't help they just make things SEEM okay temporarly and in the end don't help things out much at all...

Well thats all I can update on now!

Take Care,
God Bless
Sarah
