• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi everyone.  My name is autumn and I'm newbie here.  I would just like to ask everyone to pray for me, because I'm really struggling in my walk with God right now.  I don't really understand this, because I thought I'd be more on fire for God, since I just got baptised with the Holy Spirit not long ago.  I mean that night that this took place was just so amazing, and just really let me see how real God really is.  Anyway, now I'm all like down, and I don't want to be like this, and also I find myself struggling with reading my Bible every night.  Please pray for me, and I'll take any advice you have to offer.  Thanx. :help:

Think of powerful spiritual moments as Sinai, where the Israelites celebrated their freedom from Egyptian slavery. Celebration is good and all, but the walk with God is also that trip through the wilderness. It's long and hard. You don't "feel" like staying with it a lot of the time. It takes dedication and determination. Our time with God is usually in competition with something else in our lives. You have to decide what is more important.

Aut, congrats on your baptism!!
However, one must realise that the Christian walk is much more of faith than of feeling as Mr Cheese mentioned. Look at Jacob or Abraham. It's interesting to know that the Bible doesn't stress on their emotions or good feeling. Rather, it stresses on their struggles to keep the faith. And as a result, they triumphed.

Look at Paul at 2 Tim 4:7-8
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. "

His definition of the successful Christian walk is three things.
1) To fight well
2) To finish what you're supposed to do
3) To keep the faith

It's not suprising that he didn't put good feeling into it since it's so unreliable. But of course, i'm not discounting it and it could serve us as a bonus or a booster sometimes.

Personally, i make sure i do my devotion in the morning after i wake up. I'd be saying a prayer before i start the day too. Maybe you could try something like that. Tell God what u're struggling with and put all your cares on Him. This will not only relieve you of your load, but u'll trust Him more as you learn how to depend on Him and start telling Him your thoughts and requests.

Aut are you involved with a youth group, maybe not even one associated with your church? I remember lots of people in my youth group that would have loved to read with me, probably Ill i needed to do was ask. I was that guy that sat in the back that didnt sing and usually showed up to youth group Sunday morning hung over, but after when we sat and talked during service in the youth group room I was the center of attention, people wanted to hear what I had to say, and if I would have been more into God then the world I could have been pretty powerful there, that is somehting that I regret and even pray about becaus eI missed out on alot of good.
Anyway, you are 15 and a Christian and have been baptized the enemy is gonna do everything that he can to possibly destroy your walk. He does it to me since I came back to the Lord. I have actully left my home for hours on end because I am being tempted to do one thing or another, I even talk to myself outloud now somethimes. I to struggle with opening the Bible and reading, but it is a hard book to read its seems to be so cryptic and long winded. May I recommend a student Bible they are great and i always read the inserts and the "How to read this chapter" section first makes it so much easier and a lot of times it helps me see how to apply it to me. Just a suggestion.

It might help for you to know that it is a part of the human physical and mental makeup to experience a low after a high.

Getting really excited about something uses a lot of the bodies resources and when depleted is when you feel the low because that is when your body is recovering.  All of us go through these highs and lows and is quite natural.

I learned this by reading some of Dr. Dobson's books a christian psychollogist.

Welcome to the family of God by the way.  Kick of your shoes and stay forever.
