• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

So a couple of weeks ago I was at a friends. We were having a girls night drinking on a little wine and I had a few drags off some of their cigarettes. Nothing new as I always get the craving when I have a little alcohol, but usually one or two puffs remind me of how gross it is and I'm good. Well not this time!!! I had been free of smoking for over two years and now I have been smoking again. I feel so ashamed and disappointed in myself and the last thing I want to do is keep smoking. I haven't told anyone about it yet but am feeling like I should.

I know that I can get over it because I have before but I am still so disappointed and that for some reason makes me want to smoke more.
Please pray for me!

Praying for you - we all make mistakes and the more you worry about what people are going to say (and think) the harder it is to take back control. I know your pain - been there many times. Just pray, confess (to God and some people you know will encourage you) and smile knowing God is in control.

I have found alcohol the hardest thing about quitting. I have a couple of wines and the cravings come really strong. What I have learnt to do is drink other drinks that I wouldn't normally so the habit is gone ie I now drink Kahlua and milk instead of wine because I know that not only do I drink less but because it is a drink I didn't drink when I smoked I don't crave smoking as much. So I still enjoy a drink but I don't smoke. Also it is important to understand that when you quit smoking your body starts absorbing things better like caffeine, vitamins and for me, sugar. So I now try to stay away from drinks too high in suger otherwise I starting behaving like a two year old! That has definately lead to some really weird experiences and a few ciggies!

Anyway better go, but just don't fell to bad - we are all human saved by the grace of God. Love, and God bless, Evie
