• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm not sure if anyone remembers me, but I use to post here occasionally last year. Last year, I really struggled with OCD. It got really bad. After a while, I started improving. But, now it has returned and it has been getting bad.

Tim,

My problem was and (now rarely) still is, counting. It seems all but gone now for at least 7 years.
God has been merciful to me through medication; but His greatest help to me has been his Word; I mean, reading God's Word out loud every day for several weeks until it (ocd) was all but gone.

Reading God's Word out loud does 2 things: 1) instantly breaks the loop/cycle of OCD; 2) renews the mind. God's Word says so.

Romans 12:2 (New International Version)

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

If you are like me, you need faith.

Romans 10:17 (King James Version)

17So then faith cometh by hearing, [as in hearing one preach or hearing yourself speak the Word] and [the best kind of] hearing [understanding] by the word of God.

Know that God's Word cannot lie and must produce what it says. So make it personal - just for you. God says it is just for you. I'll pray at the bottom of this page.

Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, [I, Tim, will] think on these things."

Psalm 139 (NLT)

1 O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
2 You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
3 You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
4 You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to [me] you,
And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on [me] you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
How blessed are all those who long for Him.

Father, I ask that the hearing of your Word brings Tim better understanding of Your will for him and that by hearing, faith comes to him. Father God, I have faith in Your Word and in Your promises. I know You can break the cycle in his mind. I ask that You let it be broken forever. Let Tim have his mind in perfect submission to You. Use him for your glory and to help increase your kingdom. Father, I ask that the stripes Jesus took upon his back at the whipping post bring forth healing for Tim and free him forever from this curse. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thank you for that! I've been having a lot of spikes over the past two late nights\early mornings. I may try reading The Bible out loud.... Hopefully, it can break the OCD cycle.
