• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello everyone,

I really desire to be a very pure and wholesome Christian, but I do not have a girlfriend at all and so I touch almost every day. Is this acceptable for a serious Christian? The thing is, being a guy, if I don't do it for a few days then it builds up and I get really horny(I don't like being like that and it makes me uncomfortable).

Also when I touch I tend to think thoughts like along the lines of getting a bunch of young women very drunk and then aggressively having my way with them and what not. I realize that these kinds of thoughts are not very pure, and I do try to force myself to think more wholesome thoughts(like about being in love and stuff), but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe if I really was truly in love with someone that would help, but again I don't have anyone right now. So I'm just worried that these thoughts might be corrupting my soul, but again I'm sort of in a catch 22 here because if I don't do it then I get too horny and uncomfortable.

This is so embarrassing, but I needed somewhere to get some good advice about this issue. So any and all helpful ideas about this are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hey there!

I am 17 male. I dont have gf(which makes rly angry...) but i didnt touch last 42 days and rly proud of it. In my opinion masturbation is addictive. During it all ppl DO LUST! Lust is blasphemous and sinful in christianity... I dont touch but I lust... ALl guys do think about girs... Think too much... Now I am trying to struggle with it.

I feel much better without masturbation. My spirit flies. I do try to distract my mind, study harder, read bible, go out(hiking is also good :D), playing mmorpg also will take to another world( but it also addictive so be careful). Try to get gf. Love will full and purify your hearts.
You can freely ask any questions here. All members will glad to help :D.

The bible never mention masturbation, so I can't say if it is a sin or not. However as Christians we are living in freedom in the Spirit, and this freedom says "everything is allowed, but not everything is good for us." And we are not living in the freedom of the Spirit if we the same time are living by our flesh.

Sexual sins are mentioned as something that disgrace us. And I know this from my own experience when i was a unbeliever and didn't know God, that sex was something that really had a hold on my life, and it also gave me lots of bad self-esteem even if I had the view that sexuality was natural and something that I should just get as much pleasure out of as possible. And I only experienced as you, that just fantasizing about having sex with someone i loved was not enough, and I had to turn to other things to get the same "kick". But I feel that this has changed since i became a Christian. That the more time I spend to seek God, the more my mind gets purified, and it almost seem like my sexuality starts to get restored back to something like when i was a young boy and didn't need much at all to feel aroused.

My own personal view is that lusts should be avoided as much as possible for those that are outside a marriage, that it is something that we should not dwell in. But I also know that it is natural and it is not the end of the world if we get horny or touch or anything, but it is not something that we should let rule our lives. Sexuality is part of the creation of God, and it is a blessing He gave us, not a curse. But if we put it above him, then I believe it will be a curse for people.

Just shared my thoughts, not sure if it helped anything though. God bless you.

God bless you all for helping me here. Fowler, you are really inspiring! If you at age 17 can go 42+ days without masturbating then I, at 37, should certainly be able to as well. It probably builds up in the testicles about as much as it's going to after about a week or so, then the rest is just staying focused on God.

That's the thing, all three of you seem more focused than I am. Any secrets any of you want to share with me??

Greetings and may God bless all who read. Hey Jim, it is always good to pray and trust God in asking Him what is found to be good and acceptable in His sight. Pray for strength. This is a very difficult situation you are in. I should know. I was one of masturbation's biggest fans. God has been good to me and has delivered me from this, so in offering you advice, I am going to have to lean on the Word of God.

Reading God's Word and praying more helps to replace the time spent pondering on masturbation. Trust me, I am fully aware of the build up and the uncomfortable feelings. God can help you control it. Let your faith in Jesus help you. God's Word says, begin to learn to pray through the temptations. It is written in Psalms 119:66-68, "Teach me good judgement and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments. Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes." Amen? Keep applying God's Word to your struggle.

Trust and believe there is power in God's Word. Healing power. You have to ask God and praise him for the strength. I do everyday. This is your time to ask God for His help. Use the Word of God in your prayer and be blessed Brother. It is written in Psalms 25:4-5, "Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day." Amen. Read God's Word. Pray, trust and wait on God for your deliverance.

God has helped me and I know he can help and strengthen you. Let us all continue to pray for one another for God to give us the strength and understanding to do what is good and acceptable in His sight. :amen:

Thank you very much Mack7 for this great response. So you also have overcome masturbation. That's terrific! You're probably right that prayer, belief, and reading God's word is the answer.

So it sounds like some of you on here have actually been able to achieve freedom from masturbation. For me, I think that if I just had like one special person to think about while I touch it would really help to keep my thoughts far more pure and more about sharing a loving experience. I considered maybe thinking about my ex girlfriend, but since we are no longer together and last I heard she was engaged to marry someone else, it probably wouldn't be appropriate at this point. Oh well, I'll try to focus more on God and watch a lot less MTV and Cinemax and more stuff like the Hallmark Channel.

God bless you all for sharing your great advice and helping me!

Greetings and may God bless all who read. Praise God. You are most welcome Jim. As I stated before, I know what you are experiencing is not easy. I was way too embarrassed to even discuss the situation with anyone but when I turned to God, He was there to strengthen me. Even though we do not know each other personally, as a fellow Brother in Christ you have my support.

Anytime you need encouragement, a scripture, a prayer partner, P.M. me. Anytime, any day. God has helped me and in the name of Jesus, I know He will help you. I will be praying for you Jim and I will leave you with some additional scripture to ponder on. Just remember to never give up the fight. Never. Keep trying, that is your part. God will do His. It is in His Holy Word.

For I know of no other sure remedy for the children of God other than the Word of God. As you pray, just keep believing that God's Word has the power to deliver and to heal. It is written in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Also written in Psalms 27:7, "Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me." Amen. In Jesus name I wish you many blessings and strength to overcome Jim.
