• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At random points in my life, I get overwhelmed with the feeling that I am not saved and that everything I worked for is for nothing. I start hyperventilating and get nauseous. After like 15 minutes or so it would pass and I would feel closer to God. it wasnt until recently that I realized these were panic attacks! I used to get them when I was a kid, but i didnt think i had had them for a few years. Do you guys have any advice on how to deal with them?

See a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist imidietly, I would say. Anxiety disorders do come in the form of such strange intruding thoughts, but can be treated by a therapist. The therapist I think will ask you questions about your past and tell you how that could have led to those fears, give you techniques on how to deal with it better, and in the worst case medication will quickly get it under control. Do not wait until your problems get worse. Even when it seems to be getting better to not seek help will just prolongue your suffering, whereas when whith treatment you will live a totally normal life again or at leased get those fears under control.

Talk to your doctor if you don't already. Also for me, I do get anxiety attacks but not nearly as much as I used to. When I get them, prayer helps me a lot and also soothing music if I am able to listen to it. Also reading the Bible but if I am unable to read it, listening to the words can be soothing. You can do that for free at anytime here: King James Version - Listen or Download MP3 Audio Bible :)
