  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Sojourner,

I guess you could find any number of outlines online, but I have not done a search myself. If you happen to have access to a Thompson Chain Refernce bible, there is some excellent work (starting from p.4222a in the latest edition) which provides a general outline, a more thorough outline of each book, character studies, etc.

Greetings

I'm a new student, and I'm looking for a detailed outline of the entire Bible, book by book and by topic.

I would greatly appreciate any info on this.

Thanks!
Everytime I have read through the Bible I have outlined it as I have gone along. When I have compared those outlines to each other over the years I have been amazed at how much difference here is between those outlines due to the different perspective that I have on what I am reading based on where I am spiritually at the time.

As you mature in your faith, and as you encounter different experiences in your Christian walk your perspective changes, and you notice different emphasis' in a book that you may not have noticed before. If you compare different Study Bibles side-by-side you will see that there are differences between the outlines that each author comes up with for the same material. there will be similarities, because the material is the same in each Bible of the same translation, however, their perspectives will be different.

I don't know why you are asking for comprehensive outline, but you may find a book entitled: the Summarized Bible by Keith L. Brooks @ Baker Book House may meet your needs.

Hello Sojourner....

I would gladly participate with you in biblical studies. We can gear it toward different things and learned from differing expierences and ideologies.

For example, what is your scriptural response to a general website that accepts all faiths and forms of worship not based in actual God worship?

I do not believe my current expertise in the OT and NT made me form that opinion. What Bible verses could you apply to that as well? or in a gentle refute?

My favorite place to hang out so far is the Deeper Fellowship forum, I will be writing some neat stuff and explanations about myself and my desire for God.

It's good to meet someone with enthusiasm like yours, although right now I'm sort of 'testing the waters' to figure out how exactly I'm going to go about studying the Bible, which is why I need an outline (I always preferred the top-down approach when it comes to studying). I'll definately be around in the Bible study forums though.

Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Since you are just starting out, may I suggest a plan for you? This served me well before I went to Bible College many years back.

Start by reading the Bible through from Genesis to Revelation. Start with whatever translation you have. After you have read it completely through, do it again, in another translation, not a paraphrase or modern language equivalent. Studies have shown that you can read completely through the Bible in 54 hours at normal reading speed. If you do this Five time using a different translation each time you will have a pretty good handle on an overview of Scripture.

Once you have done that, begin with Genesis and Matthew. Read through each book in a single sitting straight through from beginning to end, each time in a different translation. Do this five time with each book. By the time you have finish, with the 5 times you read through the entire Bible you will have read each book 10 times.

Now read through both books, taking your time, and outline each chapter as you read. You can make the outline as simple or as detailed as you feel that you need. The idea here is to imbed the Scripture in you mind so that by the time you have finished doing this with every book of the Bible you will be so familiar with the text that it will be like one of your favorite music CDs. One track finishes and you automatically know what the next song or music piece is going to be.

If you do this right, without any distractions, by the time you finish you will have read through the entire Bible 10 times, but you will also have a working knowledge of the contents of each book and where you can find what topic in a certain book without having to search a concordance for specific words. This will give you a great overall knowledge of the layout and general location of everything in Scripture. This way as you do more detailed studies as you continue to mature in your faith, when you are studying one passage the Holy Spirit will have the grid to call to your thinking that "Hey this passage fits with what I read back in ________." And you will begin to make the connections in your mind of how the whole of Scripture is interrelated.

The Lord Bless you as you continue to seek His Face.

I have an Open Bible (Study Bible) and have found it very easy to read and it's also informative. Every book has an overview at the beginning that I like. I also really like the topical index at the front of the Bible. But, it is as Dmckay said, just reading it once is your best approach because the Holy Spirit will bring things to your attention that Study Bibles can't. God bless....mamabear
