Regarding what "die" meant when G~d said it, I'm not sure about the physical part. I am sure about the spiritual. In other words, I do not know if Adam and Eve would have physically lived forever if they hadn't sinned.

My point is that Eve didn't necessarily understand spiritual death. Therefore, it is a good possibility that the serpent may not have outright lied. I'm not saying that it did not deceive(I'm not totally sure), but rather that it did not lie. And if you interpret the serpent to be Satan, then that works too. Consider Jesus' fasting and temptation. When Satan tells Jesus to jump off the temple, he exploits scripture. Now scripture isn't a lie, but he abuses it and uses it for his own deceptive pleasure.
