Hello
I was given an opportunity in my English course to do a research project on a topic of my choosing. I decided to choose the topic whether Jesus of Nazareth is truly a historical figure. In my research, it became obvious to me that the New Testament scriptures are necessary to get a clear picture on the person of Jesus of Nazareth but it was important to see if they could be trusted. I have posted one of my paragraphs here in hopes that it will encourage those that are uncertain about the Christian faith. I may post my whole paper if there is enough interest.

The New Testament documents are the place to go to when wishing to know who Jesus was as a person-but what are the New Testament documents? The New Testament is not one document, but rather a collection of documents handed down the first century (Craig , Kindle Location 3392). It wasnt until much later that the church placed them under the title of the New Testament. The church chose the particular documents to be in the New Testament over others, for they were the closest sources to Jesus and his disciple. The New Testament consists of 27 separate works written from approximately the 40s A.D. to 96 A.D (Burroughs). The NT documents are all given a title based on either the context of the work or the originator of the work. The NT documents include 4 works about the life and ministry of Jesus. 3 of the works are from those who walked with Jeus (Matthew, Mark, and John) and one compiled by means of investigation and eye witness testimony (Luke). The book of Acts accounts the works of the apostles (the apostles were the 12 disciples that Jesus chose to be a part of his inner circle for the 3 years of his ministry. It can be said they were the closest people to Jesus during his ministry. This work was also written by Luke) after Jesus is said to have resurrected and returned to Heaven (more on this later). 13 of the remaining books are known as the Pauline Epistles (Epistle means formal letter), which are authored by the apostle Paul. These epistles were Pauls responses to churches (the letters are titled after the area where the church was located) at the time providing official doctrine (policy) and practices that should result because of said doctrine. 8 of the books are known as the general epistles and are written by different authors, yet speak about issues concerning doctrine and practices just as Pauls writings. The last book of the bible is Revelations and it is a prophetic telling of what is to occur during the last days on Earth before Jesus is said to return (more on it later). Before going into what the NT actually reveals about Jesus, it is necessary to assess the credibility of the NT documents.
