Growing up, would you say your parents were really strict? Did they have some strange lines you weren't to cross? Things you weren't to do? Things you couldn't say or ask. Things you were not allowed to own? Were any of the rules related to religion?

Growing up as a kid I could be gone for two weeks at a time and nobody would know. I think the only rule that was really enforced was we could not smoke pot in the house. We could drink booze and smoke cigarettes but no pot in the house. I do not respect my parents for this reason a I feel the lifestyle produced many curses and divisions that are still affecting me in my late forties.
As a Christian I now announce that those things are behind me and forgotten and my life now is all about glorifying and achieving.

I would say my parents where more protective but not very strict in some ways others are and I am their only daughter. I went to church when I was younger no questions asked to be honest I had to go but as I got older that changed. They are fine if I change denominations or leave at this point I think and I am 24 so I am an adult. I was never treated badly by my parents and they where always very reasonable I think.

I was raised by a extremely prejudice redneck father, who was so insecure he had to buy new things to try to impress others and a completely self absorbed Jehovah's Witness mother who thought everything, everywhere was demonized. .The only rule we had was we were forbidden to be normal and I paid for it every day, at school by the bullying and every night with zero friends. Other than that, not having a life was a cakewalk. lol

I wouldn't call my parents strict, but overprotective. The strange rules were all more about my personal safety or trying to keep me sheltered from certain things. For almost everything else, I was pretty much self-managing. For example, if I wanted to go to the movies with friends, my parents rarely ever said "no", I wad just expected to keep in communication with them about where I was and such.

Strict? As far as religion goes, yes, they were strict. As far as everyday life was concerned, no, not really. They wanted us to see the evil in the world, so we were exposed to far more than the average kid. But, they wanted us to have a rock solid moral foundation. Every night, before bed, we read the Bible and had a quiz on what was we had just read so they knew we understood the meaning. We were at church every time the doors were open.

Very strict.

I wasn't allowed to go out past supper time during week nights. If I wanted to do something with a friend on a weekend, I had to give a few day's notice. If I went somewhere after school, I had to call home every hour to check in. I wasn't allowed to date in High School. I could only talk on the phone for a few minutes at a time to a friend. I was on weekly progress reports from Junior High up through my senior year in High School. My parents insisted to know every assignment I was given how I did on them, every pop quiz, etc. Things weren't any different during summer breaks.

I wouldn't say my parents were strict. Some of that may be that me and my siblings were pretty good kids so they didn't really need to make a bunch of useless rules.

my parents trusted me with just about anything, in a way. I was meant to be an adult from my earliest years. I got a lot of what-if questions and other kinds of questions to get me thinking from all directions. there were times when they wanted me to present evidence or reason for some action or belief. my way of dealing with that was 2 part. 1, I would tell them everything and anything true to the point they couldn't take it. 2, I presented reasons and evidence for what I wanted. I always hated being interrogated; they wanted evidence in favor of a conclusion. The problem was that they sometimes made their own logical mistakes. Correcting them often made things worse. When I reached adulthood, things were a lot better; I would correct their mistakes and told them how I felt about it. I also chose time periods away from parents. Sometimes I would tell them why I refused to talk to them for 8 months. Sometimes I took a month and a half and left it to them to figure it out. it is definitely a lot easier to correct them now.

My father was strict with certain things. Mainly due to his Christian religion. I wasn't allowed to watch anything with magic, the idea of enjoying violent movies was highly discouraged. He even banned things like Papa Murphy pizza from the household because he thought it was too "decadent".

Although at the same time he thought it was good that I was exposed to secular things. He wouldn't allow me to enroll in any Christian only schools, and was fine with me being friends with atheists and Buddhists and I was allowed to freely roam out of the house for hours at a time. I was even allowed Internet in my room.

He always told me, if I burn in hell it's my responsibility. Lol.

There are so many amazing movies & books for kids that have magic in them! What about stuff like Harry Potter? I loved every book, every movie. I loved the Enchanted Forest Chronicles too. It's why I picked the handle Cimorene! She's my favorite character from it. I thought everyone had internet in their room, lol. How old were you when he said that if you burn in hell it's your responsibility? That's pretty intense!

Harry Potter? Of course not. I didn't watch the first Harry Potter movie until I was like 22 with a friend, and I thought it was stupid. Lol.

How old was I? I am not sure, maybe around 11. My father loves me, but he saw no reason to sugar coat things.

Satellite TV was not allowed in the house either.

Too many channels and even worse, Satellite TV was cheaper than cable and that was baaad.

My father would literally pay more for things because he thought it was less decadent and excessive. If such reasoning even makes much sense, but even to this day I still kinda carry that lesson with me.

My sister was / is an enormous fan of Harry Potter. I got into it bc of her when I was pretty small. We have all the books & dvds. We went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter when I was 10 & that's when I really was in awe. So then I read all the books. 22 is way too old to see a Harry Potter movie for the first time! It wouldn't have the same magic for you. Of course you thought it was stupid, lol.

Is that what you believe too? That if you end up in hell it's your responsibility?

You mean like Dish & DirectTV? I didn't know that was really different than cable.
