  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Street preaching makes a lot of common sense. When we consider Church preaching we can see clearly that this is simply preaching to the converted. How many un-saved people visit your Church on a typical Sunday. This is hard to accurately know unless we start asking everybody, which we certainly do not wish to do. I believe Churches should continue to preach as they do but also do street preaching.

Some will say that as people pass by they only get a short burst and only an odd one will stop and listen. It is all to do with what is being said as some street preachers get quite a few stopping to listen.

Giving out tracts as part of the preaching is important. These tracts need to be short and as modern as possible to catch the young. The young are the main people to attract and keeping their attention is vital. So please could you folks reading this give me some ideas on this very important subject.

Probably the best advice I could give is stop proselytizing.

So there was this man who was not satisfied and thought more could be done.

So he rented a hall, he put up posters and notices a week,

Telling everyone they were welcome to his meeting.

So when the day came people started to trickle in, the hall got filled,

But at the end of the meeting it was empty.

So the next day, someone asked him,
"Well, how did it go."
"How did it go? I,ll tell you, but you won,t Believe me,

you should have been there, I tell you, the presence of the spirit was so powerful and intense, they could not sit still, they got up and left, one by one.
You should have been there, I tell you."

ps, should have been in the "Lighter thread"

Everyone single Christian is a 'relationship' evangelist. Those that engage in street preaching are not doing it instead of 'relationship' evangelism - it's in addition to it.

Those who engage is street preaching should be applauded in my view - as long as it's an accurate gospel message delivered with grace and a genuine concern for those within ear-shot.

When I was in Bible College in the sixties, it was compulsory for students to go and do street preaching on a Saturday afternoon. We had to stand on a particular bit of road and yell as loud as we could whatever we felt to say.

In the early 90s, there were a group of christian students at the university I was studying at that used to stand in the Agora and preach the gospel to the students whilst they were having lunch.

No one complained and I am not sure if conversions were happening but one does not always know the outcome as this story shows.

One man used to go to the Kings Cross area of Sydney every day and hand out tracts. No conversions were apparent but he did not give up. After his death and a chance encounter by two people who were given tracts by him and who decided to try and find out others, they discovered that in all their research led them to 163,000 people had been saved as a result of receiving a tract from him.

Moderators please note. This was verbally told to me so there are no websites to reference.

Thanks for the laugh as atheists in particular are dead keen evangelists. I have yet to be on any christian forum where there has not been atheists trying to convert the faithful to the religion of nothing.

Never made THAT mistake in my life.
