• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone take strattera? Did it work for you? I have tried Ritalin, Concerta and Adderal over the past seven year but have consistantly took Ritalin. It made me very anxious. I haven't had anything for a year due to pregnancy and baby. I heard that Stattera is less likely to cause anxiety. Just curious about your thoughts if you have taken it.

My daughter was on Stratera for six weeks. What a nightmare. We are on a new medication called vyvanse. It is AWSOME! After one day, one day, we have seen an improvement. It also comes with a book that helps you, the child, teachers, and such how to help the child. I highly recommend the program. You can check it out at: www.adhdroadmap.com.
Good luck. I hope you find success along your path.

i like concerta but i used to take strattera i always got sick and threw up and it was horrible

I tried Strattera for a little while but went back to Ritalin cos it was just too expensive. Straterra made me feel (and almost be) sick about half an hour after I took it, but it only lasted a minute or two. Although it acts a different way to Ritalin (ie not a stimulant) Straterra gave me the same buzz as Ritalin (that's the only way I can describe it - for me the feeling is not too disimilar to that of pot) but Straterra lasted longer with better consistency (ie sometimes a dose of Ritalin fails to buzz me). I'm about to give Straterra another go because it's about to subsidised for Adults in Australia.

Cheers

My son has taken Strattera for the past three years. He started at age 12, and is now almost 16.

He says it controlled his symptoms (he went from flunking to honor roll), but at this point he also says that the medication no longer affects him the way it once did. He says his brain's been "retrained".
