Strange Stone in King Charles' Coronation. Is this Idolatry?

I looked it up and it's call the stone of Destiny. Does the Church of England supports this?

There are a lot of ancient practices that are incorporated into the coronation and have lost what ever meaning they had centuries ago.

The Stone of Destiny is an ancient symbol of Scotland’s monarchy, used for centuries in the inauguration of its kings. Seen as a sacred object, its earliest origins are now unknown.

It is symbolic that the King of England is also the King of Scotland. Maybe someone from the UK will see this thread and help explain it.

There is an old story about a woman who cuts off the ends of a ham before baking it. Her daughter asks why she does that. The mom says that her mother used to do it. So the daughter keeps her relatives why they do this. The answer is

The inquisitive little girl called her great grandmother and asked “Great grandma, mom and grandma said they learned how to cook a ham from watching you. Do you cut off the ends of the ham to help it soak up the juices?”

The great grandmother chuckled. “Oh, no sweetie. I just never had a pan big enough to hold a whole ham, so I always had to cut off the ends to make it fit.”

I'm a Brit and I see it as just tradition. I don't think anyone feels it has any significance other than symbolising that the monarch is also king of Scotland, as PsaltiChrysostom says. I think it would be offensive to the Scots not to use it.

I'm a Brit too. I don't really know much about it, but it's also called the stone of Scone and featured in the inauguration of Scottish monarchs. It was apparently removed from Scotland by Edward I in 1296 and built into the throne at Westminster, and officially returned to Scotland in 1966. It only leaves Scotland when a monarch is crowned.

It's only idolatry if people worship it.

When something makes you uncomfortable, there is an off button, or a close button, turn it off or close the tab.

It's super easy.

That said, monarchy's that have existed for a thousand years have tradition's that are not built on the Christian faith.

People feel comfortable with their traditions and they like to keep them. It shows who they are as a people group, who they were.

I don't think traditions are always bad even if they aren't Christian traditions. Great Britain's monarchy is built as much on pagan things as it is on Christianity, because before they were Christian they were absolutely pagan.

They aren't painting themselves blue and running around half naked at the coronation as this people group once may have enjoyed, but they do have symbols from the past to represent the passage of time...

There is some folklore behind the Stone of Scone. It was believed to have been Jacob's pillar stone [Genesis 28] And that the Prophet Jeremiah brought it with him to Ireland.

That's hard to call. For me personally as a Christian, I'd say both yes and no.
