Pope: Other Christians not true churches

LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the universal primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches.

Benedict approved a document from his old offices at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that restates church teaching on relations with other Christians. It was the second time in a week the pope has corrected what he says are erroneous interpretations of the Second Vatican Council, the 1962-65 meetings that modernized the church.

The Vatican's doctrinal congregation reaffirmed that the Catholic Church is the one, true church, even if elements of truth can be found in separated churches and communities. It said some of the separated Christian communities should not properly be called "churches" according to Catholic doctrine because of major differences over the ordained priesthood and the Eucharist.

I have been saying this for almost a year now. I have had so many troubles with Catholics on this forum because of this issue. I would love to see them try and debate this with me now, as the Pope himself now says we can't be saved, unless we are Catholic. Nothing new however, it's been that way since he Catholic church started. So, I guess we are at a stand still now, the Catholics are aloud to call us non Christian, but we aren't aloud to call them non Christian. And it just proves my point from a year ago, this is NOT a Christian forum. It's a Catholic one, and it always has been.

btw, I am very happy about this. Now there is no more slipping, and sliding, and backing, and fourthing, and blah blah blah going on. We all know where we stand. And it's about time that we got it defined. There has been way to much confussion, and way to much non sense going on, now we all know what is and isn't true when it comes to us and Catholics. Who cares right? There is one judge who is able to save or destroy, what others say should be irrelevent to us. Theres no condemnation in Christ and if God be for us (who have put our hope in Christ) who can be against us?

One can bark all they want but they (truly) have no real bite.

1Cr 4:3-4 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

I suppose it has to get to be (with us) a very small thing. I'd rather trust my judge

It's a reaffirmation / clarification of Dominus Iesus. I figure that people will either 1) ignore it 2) shake their head again about "those Catholics" or 3) get annoyed again about "those Catholics."

I had a miracle happen to me in a Presbyterian church. I don't go around telling people the only true church is Presbyterian. I love all Christians. To me: the assertation that one denomination is the only true one causes more divisions than unity. My goal in life is to bring people to Jesus. Divisions between denominations sometimes have to be explained when drawing in a believer and that is never fun.

It's not all the Pope's fault. I'm sure people who aren't Catholic forget to pray for this Christian leader. I know I pray for leaders, but I forget to pray for the Pope. I'll put him on my prayer list.

ok, just wondered. I hate it when people call each other not Christian because of their denomination. Sheesh. I mean, we attend a pentecostal church, but MY personal believes are more along the lines of Nazerene..and Pentecostal Holiness..if I could find a good church that combined both of those into one..I would be happy!
