Unless I am very much mistaken, the church pays for all this. Its not like they require for you to have a degree when you come and say you are interested, so don't let that discourage your calling.

It depends. Diocesan priest have to pay for their own education. However, those studying for the priesthood, can get some help. It
depends on the person's ability to pay.

Monastic orders however, yes, the order pays.

Great posts, everyone! Yeah, I am trying to discern (with God's help of course lol) my vocation in life, whether that be a priest, be in religious life, or married/family life, etc. I have been wondering about who pays for the schooling in becoming a priest. Partly because I know I can't afford all those years of school. :p

Many men are in the same boat as God calls them to Himself, just as He calls everyone to Himself. Ask Archbishop Sheen to pray for you, and pray for him.

You need to talk to the vocation director of your dioceses. They have a process to help you through discernment on whether or not you're being called to the priesthood. You'd do well to contact him, even if you're not quite ready yet, so that you can answer all the questions you have.

Yep, they deal with this all the time... I know I got good booklets on it, and even was able to go to a weekend at the seminary in my diocese, before discerning that the priesthood was not for me. There is a lot of help out there for you to turn to for discernment, though obviously ultimately that is up to God and you.

I know my diocese has programs for such discernment. Perhaps speaking with a priest might be helpful to start one down the right road?
