I voted yes, but your question is pretty poorly approached.

The issue is with embryonic stem cell research, as we've already discussed here, no one has a problem with nasal stem cells, or umbilic stem cells, or any number of other potential stem cell sources. The issue is purely with embryonic ones.

Personally I do not believe enough research has been done, and that which has been done is severely limited by current restrictions. As it stands, with most cells being obtained from discarded IVF embryios, I don't see a problem with it and I believe more research should be carried out to determine the value of embryonic cells versus other cells.

That's my position, I am not interested in defending it any further than this posting however.

Stem cell research needs to be done on various types because a lot unknowns still exist.

However, many that oppose embryonic stem cell research because it's a "life" being destroyed need to realize that before they considered using those embryos, they were being discarded already, so opposition just puts them back in the garbage.

Embryonic stem cells still have a great advantage since they're pluripotent.

As far as I'm concerned, Stem-Cell Research is murder, whatever the sources of the cells may be! As far as Seagulls goes, anything that could have helped Terry Schaivo should've been used, she needed to live but people and justices wanted to kill her. Anything that could've helped Schaivo has my blessing, except Stem-Cell Research! Why desecrate a life to save another, it has no moral, ethical, or spiritual value whatsoever!

Let me see if I have this straight... stem cell research that uses stem cells from an umbilical cord, after the baby is born, is murder? But no one has been killed! The umbilical cord was not a baby, it was not going to be a baby, the baby to which it was attached is sleeping peacefully in it's mother's arms - who has been murdered?

With respect, this is one of the reasons I think there need to be more research and a more open and honest dialogue about these issues, because clearly very many forms of stem cell therapy are not murder by any definition at all. And yet many people do not have any concept of the actual technology or the various cell sources.

This was my objection to the initial wording of the question. Presumably the OP was referring to embryonic stem cell research (the only type I can think of that could possibly be termed murder). As it stands there is quite a strong level of opposition on many fronts to all forms of stem cell therapy as people are not aware of the various types.

All the hype just furthers these misunderstandings.

I think it should be legal until they either get rid of IVF or make IVF so successful that they don't have any discarded embryos. It doesn't make any sense that embryos that would otherwise end up in the trash aren't put to a positive use instead.
