Well, the way I see it. If you have a friend and they made a copy of it for you and gave it to you, I don't see that as stealing. If however you bought it from a stranger...well, that's between you and God. I guess that would be stealing then.

Not the way I see it. Since he bought it for his laptop, shouldn't he be able to put it on all of his computers? I mean, when you buy a game for your laptop, you don't buy a second copy to put on your desktop, right? And if Microsoft is saying that you have to agree to do just that for their software when only you will be using it, well in my opinion that's just wrong.

Hmmm - not absolutely certain on this one. I do agree that if that was the "agreement" you signed - that you could only use it on one computer, then likely it is a violation of that agreement.

But most software companies do allow for the reality of a person who owns several computers (personal use only, not business use), to use the software on both computers - but you need to get a ruling from them (in this case, Microsoft) that that is ok to do. One example is someone who purchases a new computer but wants to load their software from the old computer to the new one. Usually allowances are made for such a transfer. But I'm no legal expert on this either, so consider the source ;).

I'd refrain from installing it on the second computer until you have explicit permission from MS to do so.

Yes it would be lying, as
1) The EULA (That long bit of text) states you can't install the OS on multiple computers.
2) You click (I Agree) to the fact that you read & agree with the EULA to install the software.

Peter, I agree with the above; and unless Microsoft provides some explicit permissions to the contrary, installing the software on two separate systems would be wrong and in violation of what you agreed to when you purchased the software. There may be allowances for special circumstances, but you'd need explicit permission from Microsoft for such an allowance.

It's no different than purchasing "seats" of software - buying software package, but permission to install on however many "seats" of it you bought. If you install it on more computers than the purchased number of seats (in this case, one), that is indeed theft, technically, for you would be cheating the provider out of a legitimate sale.

Oh. See, I wasn't aware of any agreement. So...okay. I'll defer to your opinion on this. I've never bought or loaded that before, so I didn't know about that.
