  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Interesting, how do you reconcile these with heliocentrism then:

1 Chronicle 16:30 Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.

Ecclesiastes 1:5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

So Genesis can't be contradicted but those can?

1 Chronicle 16:30
Let all the earth tremble before him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken.

Ecclesiastes 1:5 The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again.

What does one have to do with the other? I guess that is what happens when an Atheist teaches bible class.

I said...

True, but the church did teach that the earth was static.

And you said...

Not my church.

And then said...

In your opinion, does the earth go around the sun in spite of the Bible?

First, you imply that belief is in spite of the bible and not I. Have you considered that the people who claim to understand God and the bible might have gotten it wrong?

And second, what are you implying? That the sun goes around the earth?

To answer your question, the earth revolves around the sun. Our sun is at the center of our solar system and our solar system is not at the center of our galaxy. And our galaxy isn't even at the center or our known universe.

Vanderhaust, I'm going to ask you a second time:

Does the earth go around the sun in spite of the Bible?

YES or NO please.

Until you answer that, please do not ask me any questions and expect me to answer you.

Thank you.

What's so strange about it?

What if God wanted heliocentrism to remain a mystery until just the right time?

Suppose God wanted evolution to remain a mystery until the 1850's... I like this way of thinking.

Genesis 1 cannot be contradicted, since Genesis 1 is literal; the other two passages are obvious metaphors.

In other words, you pick and chose what you want to believe in based on what the majority of the church is doing at the time. Good to know.

It's called Biblical maturity, and it separates the men from the boys.

It seems that "Biblical maturity" means whatever you want is "obviously" literal, like: a talking snake, a man made from dirt, a rib woman and a magic tree of knowledge, while others are "obviously" metaphors (heavy sarcasm). Your "biblical maturity" really separates the people who do the hard work to understand what scripture was meant to say from those people who interpret scripture in the most convenient way that props up their own view of how they want things to be. Guess which group creationists here represent?

They both say the earth does not move and the sun revolves around it. Haven't you gone to Sunday school? And you are using the wrong translations, the only correct Bible is KJV1611, that was established in this forum a long time ago.

Pretty simple, really. You honestly have difficulties ciphering these?

I thought my answer was very plain, but very well, my answer is yes the earth goes around the sun.
My questions were only there to clarify your position. If you chose to remain neutral in this discussion that is your choice.

Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
AKA "cherry picking" to support your particular flavor of theism, to the tune of 30,000, give or take.
