Is it some kind of rule that the conservative-leaning moderators on this board have are prohibited from giving straight answers?

Here are the rules. Read them to get your answer: Terms and rules

The time for cutting spending is when the budget is developed and passed.

Perhaps the democrats who were in the majority (and biden) should have thought of that when they passed the latest wasteful spending bill for "green" agenda goals, and gifts for Lbtg people.

Let's see what difference a dozen years makes.

On September 9, 2009, during a nationally televised joint address to Congress by President Barack Obama, Wilson shouted "You lie!"
Obama accepted his apology.

MTG is not sorry at all. She's getting attention from fans, so it must have been the right thing to do.

GOP divided over whether heckling Biden hurts them

“I let him know exactly how the people feel. I got more text messages last night and this morning than I did on my — probably winning both elections,” Greene told reporters outside the Capitol on Wednesday. “So, no, I have no regrets.”

--

“The independents were really turned off by the whole exchange, and that’s one of the themes that you saw for the night,” Carter said. “The way that the Republicans behaved really did turn off a lot of independent voters.”

“What people were saying over and over again was, there should be some amount of decorum. You can fight back, you can slap back, there’s a lot of other times and places to do it,” Carter said. “They just didn’t like the sort of coliseum feel that was happening last night.”

biden gets to say things that those listening knew were false, but are supposed to keep quiet about it?
If they're bent out of shape by what they saw at the SOTU, they would be appalled at what happens in Great Britain's Parliament. But things work just fine there.

That's how the SOTU used to be, up until this. If you like what you hear, you stand and clap. If you don't appreciate the lies, you sit there.

Ah yes, we can only voice our opinion if we agree. Otherwise, shut up and sit down. Is that how you want things to be now?

I tried watching a recording of the SOTU on YouTube today, but the incessant standing ovations were ridiculous. I realize this is not a new thing, but it was just too much for me to even finish it. The speech could be less than half as long if the people in the room could just sit there and shut up for the duration. But then how would they root, root, root for the home team?

The SOTU has become akin to a high school pep rally for whoever is in power. It serves no meaningful purpose beyond that.

It's not an open question time. It's a speech. If you have anything to say, you wait until the speech is completed and then say it. In the appropriate forum. At the appropriate time.

I'm used to the bear pit politics of both the UK and Australian parliament (especially the Australian one where they definitely pull no punches). But the scenes during the State Of The Union were frankly embarrassing. You've been given examples of previous speeches barely a dozen years ago when a single interjection was condemned by both sides and was immediately apologised for.

Your politics has been on a steady slide downhill since then. I think that most of you are too close to the action to be able to see it. From where I'm standing it's not a pretty sight.

That is the way the SOTU has always been. Bernie had harsh things to say about Trump's SOTUs, but he followed the rules of decorum.

Being a facts and figures guy, I was curious how many times there was an interruption of applause.

There is a transcript of the SOTU on the White House website, and it shows the number of times people applauded.

The word "applause" appears in the transcript 145 times. The transcript begins at 9:08 PM EST and ends at 10:22 PM EST. That's 74 minutes. This 74-minute speech was interrupted by applause 145 times, on average roughly every 30 seconds.

Again, I realize this isn't a new thing. All modern SOTU addresses have had an insane amount of applause. But why? If the purpose of the SOTU speech is to, ostensibly, tell us the state of the union, then why do we have all of this ridiculous pomp and circumstance surrounding it?

Good grief, just because some people from the opposing side sometimes voiced disagreement, it's somehow worse than what happens in Austrailian Parliament?

Yes, for heaven's sake. That's a civilised way to conduct oneself. It works both ways. Show respect for the office. Listen to what's being said and then make any comment about it you like.

Please read what I am writing. In both the UK and Australian parliaments there are open discussions. It's called Question Time. To a certain extent, the gloves are off. The Speaker of The House in both cases is there to maintain a certain control. To make sure that the rules are obeyed. But it's rough. It's taxing. You need a thick skin. It's partisan. But respect is shown when formal speeches are being made. Any interactions such as we saw a couple of days ago would be roundly condemned by both parties and the person censured.

You seem to be moving away from that necessary respect. I can actually see it happening. And instead of condemning It you appear to be supporting it. Instead of feeling any shame that someone like MTG is shouting her mouth off during the speech you think it should be encouraged.

Good grief...

Create is the key word: def. to make or bring into existence something new

joe did not bring into existence something new. The job market repopulated jobs that we’re sidelined during Covid.

People went BACK to work.

Good grief, even CNN can see that.

President Joe Biden said in his State of the Union address that his administration has "created, with the help of many people in this room, 12 million new jobs — more jobs created in two years than any president has ever created in four years.”
Facts First: Biden’s number is accurate: the US economy added 12.1 million jobs between Biden’s first full month in office, February 2021, and January 2023. That number is indeed higher than the number of jobs added in any previous four-year presidential term.
However, it’s important to note that Biden took office in an unusual pandemic context that makes meaningful comparison to other periods very difficult. Biden became president less than a year after the economy shed nearly 22 million jobs over two months, March and April 2020, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The jobs recovery then began immediately after that, under then-President Donald Trump, but there was still an unprecedented hole to fill when Biden took office.
Biden is free to argue that his stimulus legislation and other policies have helped the country gain jobs faster than it otherwise would have. (As always, it’s debatable precisely how much credit the president deserves for job-creation.) Nonetheless, it is clear that there could only be such an extraordinary number of jobs added in 2021 and 2022 because there was such an extraordinary number of jobs lost in early 2020.

''"Biden’s number is accurate: the US economy added 12.1 million jobs between Biden’s first full month in office, February 2021, and January 2023."
Thank You
Btw, the job numbers under Biden are HIGHER than the number before the losses caused by covid. So that means a rebound+. See below.
