  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We're getting ready to start adoption classes next month. We will be adopting from the state. And already found two boys on the states website that we fell in love with and are going to try to get.

I was just wondering if anyone here has gone through this process of adoption classes and home study. And what we should expect.

Well, I've posted before about adopting through the local Children Services. I will gladly share with you.

I didn't have to go through adoption classes, probably because I already have two other children. When the adoption process started, the home study is what took the longest. It's performed by an independant company not the Children Services. There are two clearances that was had to go through (one was a background check to see if we'd ever been convicted and one to see if any abuse charges were ever filed against us). Then they started the lengthy interview process, observing us in our home and asking detailed questions. They came a few times. Then they wanted all our financial information, they do a credit check on you (not that it's a deal breaker if your not loaded). They just want to know you could support an additional mouth to feed. Then there are the personal references. They will ask for personal references, which they will contact, for a letter of reference for you asking what kind of person you are, do they know anything bad about you, would you be a good parents, etc. Then they prepare it into a "book" form and present it for review. That information along with whatever information is gathered by the Children Services Dept. will be presented to the judge at the time of the adoption. He's to review the information and make the final decision (based primarily on the homestudy and the recommendation of the Children Services) as to whether you adoption is approved.

Feel free to ask me anything else you want. I'm open to sharing anything about the process. It was vurtually painless and so worthwhile. So great, I did it twice!! And who knows, down the road....I'm open to the possibility of doing it again, if that's what God wants from me.

It blesses my heart to hear people adopting children out of the foster care system. So many people want infants and infants are far and few between. There is so much reward in fostering children and then adopting them.

God bless you all.

In our state if the child has special needs you may be able to adopt them with medical
insurance and sometimes a financial stipend to help defray the costs.

Yes, we do receive the monthly stipend, I think it is mandatory nationwide. Depending on the special needs, it ranges anywhere from like $8-$13 per day. I always think of it as like child support. It just helps cover the extra cost involved with taking care of a special needs child.

I always wondered what ever happened with furrysmommy. Wonder if she'll update?
