This is an old thread. Here is my take...
First of all, are you involved in a Worship Team? When you say that you want Christian musicians, does that mean you are going to play Christian oriented music? This makes more of a difference then you think..
What venues are you going to play? Church, Coffee houses, bars? No insult intended, but this is going to make an impact on what you play and how you play. Be careful of the Lot syndrome, getting to close too Sodom may make you one of them. I have seen young worship teams who get sucked into this trap, and some leaving the faith because of the glitter of the ungodly lifestyle.
Each member of my band has roughly 25 years music experience INDIVIDUALLY. Some of us carry the scars of what world can do to you without God. Our mission statement, if they wont go to Church, then we will go to them. All of us within our little group know the consequences of what happens without the hand of the Lord to guide us, and therefore are prepared to confront the secular scene on our own terms.
Why do I mention this? Satan doesnt want you to play Christian music to the lost. He will do everything and everything to derail you and divide you. You HAVE to have a strong walk.
Another insight. Find a practice place away from Church. Why? Most churches cannot accommodate the practice schedules you are going to need to develop your sets AND the sound levels that might disrupt anything else that might be going on. My group is multi-faithed, Pentecostal, Baptist, ect. We used to practice at Church but found that our four-hour practice (twice a week) sessions caused some stress. Additionally, some of the older members of the congregation might have a problem with songs like Higher from Creed or Evenescence songs emanating from their places of worship. I found that its easier to work outside of Church politics in this case.
Where are we playing? Outside venues, Inside venues (typically where Alcohol is not served), battle of the bands or anywhere else where the audience is not inebriated.
I have been blessed to been given band-mates that have a high degree of musical ability. No doubt in my mind, its a God thing. It took my about 5 years to get here though.
