Hi guys,
strange topic you have here. May I play devil's advocate? First in verse 2 the Magi, after arriving in Jerusalem, begin asking "where is the one born king" and verse three says Herod "heard this he was disturbed". Wouldn't that be an obvious move on the part of the Magi. They see a star and (only God knows how) they know that the star means that a king has been born to rule the Jews. Wouldn't it only make sense to go to Herod and see "his new child". That is probably what they expected. I will guarantee they never expected the child to be the son of God and to be in a stable lying in a feeding trough in the tiny town of Bethlehem!!! Maybe it was customary for men of status from foreign countries to greet the King of a land they were visiting or passing through?
One point on your side, verse 9 says that as they left Herod the star "went ahead of them". Does anyone know how a star goes ahead of you? Think of the physics required in that! Then it stops (???) over the place where the baby was? If it moved ahead of them when they left Herod maybe, as you were saying, it was over Herod originally thus leading them to him! If that is true... then why would satan have a star leading strange men from the east to Jerusalem? What is the motive here? What does he stand to gain?
Don't keep us in suspense too long Brain Damage!!!
