  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had this great idea for me and my b/f to go to six flags during spring break (we actually have different spring breaks, but I don't have classes on th. or fri. so I get out a bit early ;) )...well, the only problem is that due to something that is wrong with his feet, he can't stand up for long periods of time and wait in lines and all that. So, the six flags idea is out.

Well, now I am trying to come up with stuff we can do that is sit down stuff, but besides movies and dinner. Here in the DFW area we have everything, so it wouldn't be so hard, but east Texas where he is at is lacking in entertainment options. What are some things we can do that don't require standing for a long time?

I have a similar problem with a new guy I'm dating. He says it's no problem to do things that require a lot of walking, but he has such a bad limp that I can't help but think he's just being nice. We're "old" folks though, so you may not be interested in the same stuff we are! lol.

I've been trying to think of things too. I have recently lost a ton of weight and have been exercising like there's no tomorrow, so I really don't want to just sit around and eat. Help! He did suggest that we could lift weights together. Can your guy go bike riding, fishing, bowling or canoeing?? (we have too much snow on the ground now for some of that stuff). Maybe you could go white-water rafting sometime?? Or what about a more traditional trip to see some of the sights in your area by car? You can do picnics and some of this other stuff too.

I didn't even think about fishing! He loves that so that is one thing we can do. Sight seeing would also be really fun too or a mini road trip! Thanks! Hehe old folks, nah. It's funny because I have a bad back, so I have to sit where there is back support lol and he has bad feet. We sure seem old at only 21 and 23 lol

Have fun and enjoy each other's company! It does mean a lot that you are willing to find something for both of you to do. He'll appreciate that!

As for us? Well, looks like we're going to go see "The Passion" tomorrow night and go out for dinner.

I'm looking forward to going canoeing with my guy. He works out with weights so much that he has a terrific upper body--he'd be a natural with a canoe!

Hope you have a great time!

Me and my fiance like to visit the local duck pond...kinda fun to just sit there and watch them.

Also, we're big into board games and puzzle.

How about bowling? You really only stand when it's your turn, otherwise you can sit. Horseback riding? Haven't really ever done it myself, but it just came to me for some reason.

That's the best I can come up with.

Hey, I'm from DFW :D.

Six Flags isn't completely out. THey have wheelchairs there to facilitate people who can't walk or stand for long periods of time. He just has to be willing to use one. There's plenty of things you can do; lots of malls (which isn't nearly as much walking unless you go to the Dallas Galleria), museams, movies (even IMAX ones...maybe you can see the passion on IMAX), parks, hanging out downtown (there's the West End in Dallas and SUndance Square in Ft Worth). Just a few suggestions. Hope that helps!!

He would definitely not use a wheelchair unless absolutely necessary...He's just very independent and wouldn't want me to be pushing him around everywhere. I think I can get him to go if we go on a day that is not crowded...I'm thinking we should go on a Sat. really early and try to avoid long lines and take time to sit down and stuff. :) I also think we will probably go to the IMAX sometime, especially since he will be moving to Dallas soon. I'm sure we will think of stuff once he gets settled here...It will make it so much easier to spend time together :) I can't wait!

I don't know about Six Flags, but I know Disneyland here has a "handicapped pass" that you can get. It enables you to not have to stand in the lines. I have an injury that makes me have to use it sometimes. But some parks will allow you to get one, most of the time without having to even specify what your injury is. You should call and find out if that's available.

But I'd say picnics are nice. Road trip idea is just great. I know some of my favorite times are when we just get in the car, drive until it's time to eat, stop somewhere and eat, then turn and have a nice relaxing drive back. Of course I just hit the coast (right near Malibu or something) and drive up the coast, so maybe I'm a bit spoiled in that respect.

I didn't think of getting a pass type thing! We will have to check that out if we go to six flags sometime. That would be cool to get to skip all the lines. Thanks. :)

I'm not sure about a road trip...he is going to be working full time now, but maybe on the weekend sometime it would be cool if we did a mini road trip. There's a drive in in one of the towns about an hour from here and there are some great places to go fishing too :)
