Just as Adam and Eve stood before the Lord in the garden of Eden, We also will stand before the Lord one day.

When we read the story about Adam and Eve we can clearly see that they ate the fruit God told them not to eat and thus were banished from the garden forever.

Let's take a closer look at what happened when they stood before the Lord. See if you can spot something else they did other than just eating the fruit.

Genesis 3-13

3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Did you notice how quick Adam was to say "The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree," before he said he did eat?
And what about Eve being quick to point out that "The serpent beguiled me" before admitting to eating the fruit.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that they were making excuses for their actions, almost pointing the finger elsewhere before owning up to their own mistake. It didn't work for them and it isn't going to work for us either when we stand before the Lord. We wont be able to say something to the effect of well if he/she didn't do this then.... Or he/she hit me first! We are all held accountable for our own actions what someone else says or does will have no bearing at all for the things we've done, or the choices we make in this life. It didn't work for Adam and Eve, and it's not going to work for us either. And just as they were sent outside the gate, we wont be allowed in it.

Another point I want to make is that we need to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us, We need to read Gods word for ourselves while praying for understanding. Think about what could happen if you went by what another person was teaching you, you wont be able to stand there and say... I was going by what they said the Bible ment.

I pray that the Lord will bring all those who seek him understanding and guidance, so they can forever remain in the light. And I thank him for sending us Jesus who is able to clothe us so we wont have to stand naked and ashamed before God.

Thanks Sharky, what makes this awesome is it comes from the Lord. It's amazing how many lessons there are in just the story of Adam and Eve, and the parallels between that story and others in the Bible. The Lord can open our eyes to many things if we just ask him to :)

Right Blessed-one! We need to understand self more. Even in society today we can see people all around us making up excuses for the actions of others by pushing the blame elswhere and not expecting them to even think about taking responsibilty for their actions.

Incredibly valuable point on the ABSOLUTE NECESSITY of study of the Word of God, and PRAYER!

I see people in these forums daily answering questions and giving advice, and yet they give themselves away when they ask a sand box question.

You are so right. Faking it and blaming others won't get it when we stand before the Lord.

I also noticed in that lesson that Adam was not content to blame Eve, alone.

Adam said "THE WOMAN"....then look at what he said...."WHOM THOU GAVEST TO BE WITH ME" *sigh* Not only did he blame Eve but then he turned around and blamed God because He was the one Who gave her to him in the first place.

What a "typically, average" Christian Adam is. WE make mistakes and then we want to BLAME GOD!

Thanks again Gerry! You always have such valuable input :) I thank the Lord for giving it to you so you can share it with us.

Good point about pointing the finger at God and trying to blame him for a problem we merely created for ourselves. It is when we start pointing fingers instead of taking responsibilty for our own actions that our hearts stand in danger of becoming hardened. If we take responsibility for our own actions while here on earth we wont have to worry about what we'll say or do when we stand before the Lord :)

Isn't it marvelous that God would consider to use us in any way at all. What a priviledge it is to serve our God!

But you are right again. It is so easy to balme others and then ultimately God, Himself. Some Christians have been known to go so far as to say, I wish God had never led me to that sorry Church in the fiirst place. When that attitude is a pretty fair indicator that God likely never did lead them there at all, but they went for other reasons.

We blame God for almost everything. "

"God why did you let me fall in love with that person anyway?"
"God why did you let them lay me off?"
"God you could have stopped me from making that mistake"

And on and on it goes. Now if only we can learn to "blame" Him for all the GOOD things in our lives.

Yes we must learn to be more thankful for the things he does!

:D heehee what you posted reminds me so much of the Israelites in the desert! They sure complained alot in much the same way!
