T A K E F I V E DEVOTIONALS
by David McQueen

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Pet 3:15

The book of Daniel is one of my favourite in the Bible. Over and over again you see stories of outstanding courage against what was the common culture. It all started out with the insistence that Daniel, Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego would have a pure diet rather than the rich, non-healthy alternative that was being served from the king’s table. It went further when Daniel continued to pray from his window even though the government decree said he shouldn't, and then there was the three boys not bowing down to the statue. Standing tall and not compromising strong beliefs even if the consequences were grave.

So often we follow set patterns of life and don't want to step outside of our box in faith to see where God can lead us. Try home schooling your child, and see the response from many who would argue, "The child needs to be in a structured school". Try starting your own business, and listen to those who argue that you should be in employment. Sometimes it makes you think, why do we have to always want to fit into this particular mould of behaviour? Whether at school, home or work?

Even in church this is the case. Someone who does not fit in can often be looked upon as weird. Imagine what a rumpus Jesus must have caused with his revolutionary approach to thinking outside the box? Those leaders must have had so many sleepless nights. But the one thing that he taught is to be confident in what you are doing, as long as you believe it is in the will of God. Stand up for what you believe in but ensure it is line with what is in the scriptures. Set apart Christ as your Lord. Stay blessed.

Father help us not to be afraid to stand up for what we believe in. To search your word and take time out with you so that when push comes to shove we can stand tall for what we believe in. Give us wisdom and forgive our sins, we pray in Jesus name. Amen
