i bought one of those stair machines, u know the ones that make you're legs feel as if they're walking up stairs...anyway...after using it for about 1minute the muscles around my knee's burn like crazy, and after 1 minute 30 seconds it hurts so much it feels like my legs have locked up, and i cant carry on, i have to sit down before i collapse, has anyone else had this problem? is it me or will it pass?

thanks

Consulting a physician before beginning any major new fitness recheme is always a smart move. Before you start remember to stretch properly and begin slow so as to warm up your muscles gradually and not overstrain/tear muscles and ligaments. Resistance on steppers can more then simulate walking up stairs... more like walking up stairs carrying a heavy pack which can put alot of strain on untrained muscles. Start out real slow with minimal to no resistance for the first few days/week and give your body time to adjust to the new workload. Mountaineers don't start out carrying 65 pound packs walking up steep pitches... neither should you mate.
