St. Patrick ate pigs! Should we follow his example?

This is an interesting anecdote from Patrick's Confession, talking about his journey on a ship that God had led him to find and then what happened with his companions after they reached land:

And then that day I disdained to supplicate them, on account of the fear of God; but I hoped of them that they would come into the faith of Jesus Christ, for they were Gentiles; and this I obtained from them; and after three days, we reached land, and for twenty-eight days we journeyed through a desert, and their provisions failed, and they suffered greatly from hunger; and one day the master began to say to me: "What sayest thou, O Christian? Your God is great and all-powerful; why canst thou not, then, pray for us, since we are perishing with hunger, and may never see the face of man again?" And I said to them plainly: "Turn sincerely to the Lord my God, to whom nothing is impossible, that He may send us food on your way until ye are satisfied, for it abounds everywhere for Him." And with God's help it was so done; for, lo! a flock of swine appeared in the way before our eyes, and they killed many of them, and remained there two nights, much refreshed and filled with their flesh; for many of them had been left exhausted by the wayside. After this, they gave the greatest thanks to God, and I was honored in their eyes. (THE CONFESSION OF ST PATRICK)

Even if Patrick did observe the Sabbath, as well as worshiping on Sunday, he also ate swine. Not only that, God provided swine as a provision for him and his traveling companions and used it to bring glory to His name from people who were not Christians.

I doubt that you would want to use St. Patrick as an example of what people should eat, but you are eager to use him selectively on your pet topics.

You are arguing against a strawman. Who says that "all Christians started keeping Sunday only, after Jesus' death"? The fact is that some Christians did continue to observe the Sabbath; however, that does not prove that all Christians are morally obligated to do so, as Adventism claims. The fact is, also, that the early Christians began assembling for worship on Sundays but not "keeping" it as a new "Sabbath."

Your position has a lot more "straw" in it, compared to my position when you look at the record of the book of Acts, which had very little, if any 1st day worship services, but there were scores of Sabbath services that Paul was part of. The 10 Commandments, of which the Sabbath was one of, is the "claim" that the Apostles obeyed. Pray tell where is the commandment, or example from Jesus for keeping Sunday??!

The Resurrection perhaps?

Jesus keep the Sabbath while resting in the grave! Note, that Jesus did not give a new Sabbath Commandment upon rising from the dead on the 1st day. That is very significant, in that if there was to be a change made that would have been a good time to do it!

Even if you lived next to the sea and a fire station the fire will never be put out.

If that is keeping the sabbath you will one day do it.

Nice analogy

Young) Revelation 18:17 `And every shipmaster, and all the company upon the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, far off stood,
18 and were crying, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What [city is] like to the great city'?

Going to church on Sunday does not equal "keeping Sunday," any more than going to church on Saturday equals "keeping the Sabbath." You don't seem to understand that not all non-Adventist Christians believe that Sunday is the "Christian Sabbath." It is not. That is why your arguments are fallacious.

There was no need for a commandment because Sunday was not the "new Sabbath." Christians didn't need a commandment to begin assembling for worship on Sundays, and it is not a sin to go to church on Sunday or any other day.

Back to the point of the thread, St. Patrick and the Celtic Christians worshiped on Sundays. Even if they did observe the Sabbath in some manner, they also held religious services on Sundays. If you look to them as an example, shouldn't you do the same?

For the 7th Day Sabbath of the Lord thy God, there is a "thus saith the Lord", even "the commandment" [Exodus 20:8-11; etc], but as for the weekly, 'first [day] of the week' [again, look at the Greek carefully in each case, and something marvellous appears] there is no "thus saith the Lord", neither "commandment" in all of scripture.

It is not about what others [like Patrick or others] so much as did [for Christ Jesus had several things to say about "traditions"], except as they obeyed and followed the word of God and His Commandments.

For more on the Sabbath... see Bible Doctrines; "Sabbath, the 7th Day", questions afterwards?, feel free to contact me.

Can I sit on her shoulder for that meeting? It should be most interesting. I'm a tad big for that but one gets the idea.

Do other people keep the Sabbath while they're dead or only Jesus? If death is cessation of existence, as Adventism teaches, how could Jesus have kept the Sabbath in the grave?

See this ...

...see this... And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Acts 2:46

...but "continuing daily" does not negate the "commandment" of God in regards to the 7th Day.

Please see Romans 6 in regards to the Resurrection.
