In some denominations, there is an honouring of Mary the mother of Jesus...
.... But I was wondering if there is much done in respect of Mary Magdalene? She seems to have been very close to Jesus and is mentioned many times in the gospels.

Commemorated every July 22nd:

Mary Magdalene, the Holy Myrrh-bearer and Equal to the Apostles
Saint Mary was from Magdala in Galilee on the Sea of Tiberias, and for this was named Magdalene. When the Lord Jesus cast out seven demons from her, from which she had been suffering, she became His faithful and inseparable disciple, following Him and ministering unto Him even to the time of His crucifixion and burial. Then, returning to Jerusalem together with the rest of the Myrrh-bearers, she prepared the fragrant spices for anointing the body of the Lord.. (more at this link)

Non Protestant Christians tend to honor Mary in a number of ways. This goes back to ancient times especially when it came to certain heresies like Arianism, the Ebionites etc. that denied the Divinity of Christ, honoring Mary as "the mother of God" was another way of bolstering the teaching of Christ's divinity, and other basic teaching found in the ancient creeds like "Christ being born" in the flesh (certain Gnostics denied that).

Mary also is a kind of a mascot for the church, and a kind of role model for the average believer. And she also has a kind of archetypal significance as well, as far as symbolizing the body of Christ, especially with certain passages like Revelation 12.

Absolutely. See, for instance, the midnight praises for Sundays in the Coptic Orthodox Church, which contain the following praises:

Who is likened unto You, O Lord among the gods, You are the true God, the Performer of miracles.

+ You revealed Your power to the people, and You saved Your people with Your arm.

You descended into Hades and brought up those who were captives in that place.

+ And granted us again the freedom, as a good God, for You have risen and saved us.

Christ our God has risen from the dead, He is the first-fruit of those who departed.

+ He appeared to Mary Magdalene ,and spoke to her, and likewise said:

"Tell My brethren to proceed to Galilee, and there they will see Me."

+ So Mary came forth to the disciples and told them she had seen the Lord, and that He told her so.

Truly indeed it was good caring of the Saint Mary Magdalene.

+ She came to the grave on one of the Sabbath days, seeking earnestly the Resurrection of the Lord.

She saw the angel sitting on the stone, proclaiming and saying, "He is risen He is not here."

+ Wherefore we glorify Him, proclaiming and saying, "Blessed are You O my Lord Jesus, for You have risen and saved us."

The current creative series, The Chosen, is giving MM a lot of prominence. The series is great and the actress does a wonderful job.

In our calendar, many saints are honored, almost one for every day of the year. Mary Magdalene is one of those honored saints, commemorated (as @FenderTL5 noted) on July 22.

My sense is that most people who think about the saints as part of their devotional life have a couple of saints who are extra meaningful to them, but that different saints are important to different people. Mary Magdalene is one of my own favorite saints.

Mary of Migdal (tower) was always held in high esteem in the Eastern churches...

She was a follower of Jesus. The Bible says Jesus drove demons out of her, so she followed him. Some denominations claim she had also been a prostitute, but Scripture doesn't really tell us this. Whatever she came from, she was a faithful disciple. She heralded the Resurrection to the disciples.

Mary the mother of Jesus was also a faithful disciple, she was with the believers between Jesus' ascension and the Holy Spirit's coming. Much earlier, she took the hard step of carrying Jesus in the womb and giving birth to him. She was of course, a mother to Jesus, and every good mother loves her children sacrificially, so we can assume she did so as well. She was present at Jesus' first miracle, and played a role in its being revealed.

Both Marys did things worthy of enduring memory. It is not my place to judge which of them is the better saint.

St. Mary Magdalene is honored and remembered by being called Isoapostolos (Equal-to-the-Apostles), and also is known as the Apostle to the Apostles, as she is the one who brought the Gospel of Christ's resurrection to the Apostles.

Tradition says that she traveled preaching the Gospel, reaching perhaps as far as what is now southern France. The origins of dying eggs for Easter is attributed to one legend concerning her, according to the legend she had been invited to eat with the emperor in Rome. During the meal after having heard her speak at length about Christ, His suffering, death, and resurrection, the emperor took a boiled egg from the table, held it up declaring, "It is no more likely that your Christ rose from the dead than this egg would turn red in my hand." At which point the egg miraculously turned a deep red. This is why St. Mary Magdalene is frequently depicted holding a red colored egg in iconography:

The West began to associate St. Mary Magdalene with the "sinful woman" who washed His feet, and that specifically that she was a former prostitute, beginning with a sermon by St. Gregory the Great. But Gregory's intention wasn't to demean or diminish St. Mary's importance and dignity; but rather he saw in St. Mary an example to be imitated and that no one is outside of Christ's compassion and reach.

The idea that St. Mary Magdalene has been denigrated in the West, as best as I've been able to tell, is largely a product of the imagination of people like Dan Brown.
