Jan Hus (listen (help·info)) (IPA: [ˈjan ˈɦus], alternative spellings John Hus, Jan Huss, John Huss) (c. 1369 Husinec (Prachatice District), Bohemia – July 6, 1415 Konstanz, Germany) was a Czech religious thinker, philosopher, reformer, and master at Charles University in Prague. His followers became known as Hussites. The Roman Catholic Church considered his teachings heretical, and Hus was excommunicated in 1411, condemned by the Council of Constance, and burned at the stake in 1415. Nearly six centuries later in 1999, Pope John Paul II expressed "deep regret for the cruel death inflicted" on Hus. The pope then went on to suggest an inquiry as to whether Hus might be cleared of heresy.
Hus was a key contributor to the Protestant movement whose teachings had a strong influence on the states of Europe and on Martin Luther himself.

He was a heretic.
He was a theologian and a true saint willing to die for the truth!
Try reading his letters while under arrest prior to the councel that sent him to his death!

And IMHO, this is nothing more than yet another blasphemous use of the title Saint!

To use the TITLE Saint before a person's name is to confer special high honor upon them for an exemplarly led life of holiness and sanctity.

Hus did not do this, in fact, as a direct result of his teachings, his immediate followers became murderers that cast fear into the hearts of men after his death. That is the fruit of his teachings and life.

To give the TITLE Saint before his name is to confer special high honor, and doing so here is a grave insult to all those who truly are deserving of such honor, and thus, because of its heavy religious conotations, is blasphemous to use this way, IMHO.

Definition of Blasphemy:
blasphemous language (expressing disrespect for God or for something sacred)
profanation: blasphemous behavior; the act of depriving something of its sacred character; "desecration of the Holy Sabbath"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
The title SAINT is sacred and signifies, a person of great holiness and sanctity who shines as a light to help us on our journey, given as examples for us to follow as Paul said he was an example for believers who knew him to follow

The giving of the FORMAL TITLE SAINT to a man guilty of such rebellion and forming such followers is to deprive the Title SAINT of its sacred character.

That, by definition, is blasphemy.

As Oblio has already told you
It is blashphemous because a person is venerated as a Saint for the habitation and work of the Holy Spirit in them. It is proper therefore to describe such abuse of the term and the ascribing the work of the Holy Spirit falsely as blasphemy.

I've truly never known your opinion to be humble therese, in my opinion you couldn't be more wrong with your opinion here you clearly have not read Huss letters prior to being sent to death, from the councel...Here was a man a humble servant of our Lord who was willing to give up his life...FOR TRUTH.

As I told bene, don't be confused about who is a saint. The simple answer will come to you if you simply open your Bible to 1 Corinthians, chapter 1, and look at verse 2, and then you will know for all time what a saint or who a saint really is.

In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul identifies himself as the author, and he identifies the recipients as "The church of God, which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus (or set apart), called saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord." Now, there you have a definition of a saint: one who is sanctified in Christ Jesus and who calls upon the name of Jesus Christ. In any place, in any city, anyone who has been sanctified in Christ Jesus, through salvation, who calls upon His name as Lord--is a saint! The word means "set apart," or "holy" (hagios is the Greek word). Anyone who is a Christian is a saint--anyone! You find that, that term is used in many, many places to address Christians.

In 2 Corinthians 1:1, there is a greeting with "all the saints who are in Achaia" and this is a typical Pauline expression, as it was throughout the life of the early church. Ephesians chapter 1, "to the saints who are at Ephesus." It is simply a term used to describe any Christian. So I hope that helps.

Catholic and orthodox titling of saints means nothing outside your respective churches, the bible is clear what a saint is!

Yours in Christ,
St. Simonthezealot

Simon there is a difference between a saint and a canonized saint. All who live in Christ and persevere to the end and are rewarded with heaven are saints. This is the feast that we celebrate on November 1st, All Saints Day, the feast of all who are in heaven but we do not know their names.

A canonized saint is a person who is so close to Jesus that their life refects Him. These are the people who see the face of Jesus in all that they meet and respond to them as Jesus would. They are the people who have given over to the Lord every part of their life so that they can truly say, not I but Christ who lives within me. This is what we all strive for, but most do not reach this point until after death. These saints are a beacon for us, an example of how to draw closer to God. Jesus is of course our primary example, but does it really hurt to see by the example of others, those who were only human, that because they found their way to Christ, we can also? Jesus is our teacher of how to live the perfect life, but does this mean that we cannot also find something of worth from the saints as well?

God Bless,
Nancy

But dear simon, Protestantism has no such practice of titling their leaders in such a fashion.

So you doing so here, following Catholic practice, especially given what you have had to say about Catholicism, relating it to the Beast and sons of infidels was it? brings your use of it here into question as to your purpose.

It throws the deep, spiritual, sacred use of this word as a TITLE back at us in a very blasphemous manner, especially using it to TITLE enemies of the Catholic Church.

It is obvious to me you know exactly what you are doing and this is nothing more than a backhanded attempt to slam Catholicism yet again by titling Her enemies, contrary to the practice of protestantism, the same way as we title those we hold in highest esteem.

Acting as if you have been wronged by our response is disengenuous.

Therese,
These are some of the better known saints of the reformed church, because we PROTESTants have a history of being persecuted by rome doesn't mean we can't discuss some of the great things these people have done in forwarding OUR faith, to simply suggest that our calling someone something that started as a roman title as backhanded is a joke, are we NOT to use the word trinity?
Paul calls people saints as I mentioned, you guys don't have a corner on the market. The beast comment or the perdition comment were NOT directly attached to the "Catholic" church.

That you are doing so in THIS forum of all forums, and using ENEMIES of the Catholic Church to do so SPEAKS VOLUMES and does so much louder than your words above. . . . .

What you consider enemies of YOUR church I consider slaves and servants of our Lord Jesus Christ!
And what you consider slaves and servants of our Lord Jesus Christ, I consider enemies of my Church, it's sister Church and evil false prophets who taught heresy. I judge him by his fruit, the Taborites and by his false teachings such as predestination, salvation by faith alone, near-communism and ultra-nationalism.

And what you consider slaves and servants of our Lord Jesus Christ, I consider enemies of my Church,

Young man this is quite the disturbing comment, take a breather and think about what you say!
This puts you in the wrong camp, because Christs' church is made up of the body of believers of our Lord and Savior, and if you are an enemy of the members of the body of Christ I don't admire your position! Your church doesn't even take this approach with non-catholic Christians...
I encourage you to read the written word of God!

YOU The body of Christ!?
You judging me young man?
1 Corinthians 12:12-14
One Body with Many Members
12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.

Romans 12:4-6 (New International Version)
4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
1 Corinthians 12:26-28 (New International Version)
26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

YES I AM! :clap::clap:

When you use the word 'saint' you mean it in the general term that "all who are in Heaven are saints" and not in the specific sense of someone who has been canonized by a Church, right?

Or is there a church that has cannonized him?

It's a reference to everyone who by salvation has been sanctified, that is set apart from sin in Christ Jesus...
We have scripture as our authority, not an ecclesial body to
"canonize" ! so based on the plain understanding of scripture we can see what a saint is! I can share some more scripture in this regard if you desire!

You judging me young man?
I'm judging your "churches".

That is about ethnicity. No race is above the other in the eyes of Christ.

The rest of your verses has nothing to do with false teachers and if they are a part of Christ's body. Christ's body cannot be divided. Now, if the RCC or the EOC is Christ's body, I dunnow, I'm so lost here. :(

Anyway on your false teachings:

Matthew 7:15-20 (NKJV)

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them."

Okay, so what is the fruit of Jan Hus? Pre-communist, pre-nationalistic fanatics, called taborites that killed Germans and Catholics and started a war against the legitime king of Bohemia.

Let's continue here:

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

This clearly shows us that you are not saved by confessing Jesus as your saviour. You have to do the will of his Father in heaven, ie follow the law of God. You Protestants often prophesies about Armageddon (notably SDA here), you imagine that you see "demons" just like some fools believe that they have seen Ghosts and you do "wonders" in his name like "healing" and such. I'm sure Jesus is talking about you here.

Okay, let's continue to read our bible:

Matthew 7:24-25 (NKJV)

Build on the Rock

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

What is this rock? This is what made me thinking about Catholicism again. The Greek word for Rock is Petra does that sound familiar? SAINT PETER of course!
Look here:

Matthew 16:18 (NKJV)

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

So we have to build our house on Saint Peter the apostle, on the Pope and the Holy Roman-Catholic Church. Yesterday, I was reading the bible (in Swedish) and God made me see these verses; I thank him for revealing the truth for me. Now, I know the thruth.
