  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, me too.

Yes, yes and yes again... UGH! Although Sunday I leave for Finland and Tuesday next week it's time for northern Norway to chase some salmon and it's probably going to be like 40-50s... :D So then I can complain again... or then they'll have a heatwave and no fish....

Yeah... except my spare computer caught a virus, so I have to walk to the Li-Berry every time I want to get online. (My primary computer has been broken for three months.)

And they don't allow food or drinks so I can't take a water with me. Is outrage! :(

I'm lucky my password works here for internet access, though, considering I'm not registered for classes this term! :D

Congrats Khaleas! What kind of dress did you get?

One of my friends is getting married in a couple weeks and she ordered a strapless gown. She also lost close to 50 pounds in the past six months, and her seamstress apparently doesn't understand what needs to be done--she is talking about letting the dress out. :o I told her to get David's Bridal on speed dial and to have some double-sided tape ready, just in case.

I hope this strapless thing is out of style by the time I ever walk down the aisle. Another friend who photographs weddings says that he misses lots of shots because the brides are jacking up their dresses. :o

I don't think a move towards modesty will occur in the next 15 years, and I don't think you want to wait that long...
I don't think a gown with straps is necessarily modest, nor is a strapless gown necessarily immodest. It's just that I wouldn't be caught dead in the latter. :p :)

Me either. Of course...I couldn't hold up the latter anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue. Straps are a must.

One of my bridesmaids got mad at me for not getting long-sleeved bridesmaids dresses, as if such a thing exists. So, she points out that sleevless (but with straps) dresses violate the church dress code, which was intended to keep 14-year-old girls from dressing like Britney, and not really concerned with bridesmaids' dresses. Anyway, after much discussion, we finally got a picture of the dress to the head priest, and he's like "That's pretty; what's the problem?"

My dress is long-sleeved though, because I have 100,000 freckles and nobody looks good in spots.

Oh man, I got some good giggles out of Father and Matushka. They've seen each dress choice I've made. They have all been fine and since I'm required to wear a veil (which I would have anyways) I have a on the shoulder sorta kinda dress. I wouldn't been caught dead in a strapless (I kinda have Photini's problem too :D ) and that was the only thing Father said, not strapless and not revealing. When we were hoping to get married in Finland the priest said no train... now how many dresses are with no train??? My Father here said, have whatever train you want, it's not I who has to deal with it! (His dear wife will since she is my crown holder  ). So I have one heck of a train...

I decided to cut out the whole bridesmaid's dress deal since my maid of honor is far from any place to try on something and the other one is overseas. All our men are in uniform... so darn unfair, they don't even have to think what to put on... Father is all excited about the sword arch afterward and kept joking that now his boys won't become priests after they see all the guys in uniforms.

Well, I'll post some pics of my dress (since I know my husband won't venture in here)... it's a trial size that is two sizes too small and missing parts (like the modesty panel in the back). The veil is not the one I'm picking...

Brenda and I are both so psyched. Your's will be the first Orthodox wedding we've ever attended.

We're excited that you're coming:clap:

Don't worry about it being your first Orthodox wedding, there will be a couple babushkas from St. Seraphim there to keep everyone in line:D Of course, we're all lost when it comes to the proper use of pews, so it may end up being chaotic anyway. My guess is the Russians will stand the whole time, our families will sit the whole time, and the St. John's people will be shaking their heads and collectively thinking "There goes the neighborhood."

I ordered the OCA booklet (40 of them actually) Holy Matrimony and I'm letting my guests have them for the ceremony and then donating them to the church for future use.

I'm also working on a website and that will include some info about Orthodoxy and customs etc. Since I'm going to be like the only orthodox in our families there I'm pretty sure everyone will sit... most of the people I've invited from church are in the choir so they'll be busy keeping the volume up. :D
