I still fear the Autopilot mode kicking in

Ever tried saying the Creed quietly in English when everyone else round you is chanting it in Ukrainian [ still have not got my head round that ] - you really really have to concentrate - I have my Book in front of me for safety.

It's bliss when I'm in Lourdes and SF decides to Serve in English on weekdays - the book goes away

:)Now imagine your parish changing priests 5 times in the past 20 years, and every priest using a different English translation of the Creed . The translation I memorized back in Sunday School is not the same one that I learned back in Sunday School. So While the priest is saying "consubstantial" I am saying "Of one essence" , when he is saying "begotten not created" I am saying "begotten not made" etc. So I just stick to the Greek version now, because the dissonance bothers me.

I know the translations are bizzare and so many of them. When we visit parishes I appreciate greatly the diptich with the creed where at least you can read it the way the congregations reads it... I absolutely dislike the expression "made" though as the word "creation" carries more meaning for me... I do stick to the Greek too ;) Anyways nothing beats the "orginal' so there are no "translation wars" ...

I know. Plus wherever I go I know it will be exactly the same.

I often have a written copy of both the Creed and the pre-Communion prayer in front of me because there are so many times I tend to stumble through them due to a totally different translation being used at the parish I am at.

Scoba better works on a same translation for the Creed... It will enable us all to share at least the same one. I know that a new translation is in works for us with the GOA from Greek...BTW of the Liturgy :) all this reciting the communion prayers before communion are against the "typicon" of the church... Those prayers should be recited at home they are part of the "communion service" that is to be read the night or the morning before Orthros or the Hours... ;) I find it annoying to have to recite something that is not "in the service" and constitutes a different "service" all together....

Super Bowl Sunday is next week! Go Steelers!

I just drove by Raymond James Stadium yesterday!
I'm glad super bowl sunday and Pascha doesnt coincide this year cuz Father would probably cancel services lol. I'm totally expecting him to say Go Steelers in the announcements next Sunday.

Without saying as much, Fr. Patrick said "Go Steelers" during his sermon last Sunday. He was walking about the victory of Orthodoxy working for the good of a small child who was brought from the orphanage in Guatemala to Pittsburgh for eye surgery. He said this was a victory for Orthodoxy in Pittsburgh much like the victory we expected to see later in the day. LOL!

As if you can't guess :D :D :D

I actually have been pretty well behaved. The brunt of my craziness over the Steelers in the Super Bowl is being absorbed by my wife, my dad, my sister, Jenn the Finn, my friend Mike and a few other friends. Mrs. G is about to go nuts if I don't find a Super Bowl XLIII Terrible Towel. Everyone is advertising they have them, and yet no one has one yet! UGH!!!

Luckily for me most of those named above are just as excited about the Steelers being in the Super Bowl as well!
