You know Emmanuel, I was thinking it might be a good idea for me to start writing summaries such as yours in order to strenghten my weakening German vocabulary which very rarely gets put to use anymore...

Jeder morgen eine Zusammenfassung schreiben ? Gute Idee. Dann kannst du mich vertreten wenn ich nicht da bin.

How does one say in German:

I just made a peach-blackberry cobbler.

Yum. Wish I could share it over the Internet with you.

That sounds good however you say it. I made a blueberry muffin loaf yesterday, with a crunchy topping.

Warum ist das OUTRAGE die Sprache unseren vielgeliebten Nachbarn zu sprechen ?

Errr, what's a cobbler in French ?

Peach = Pfirsich

Can't remember the word for blackberries

I only have a few peaches on my tree due to the heat wave we had, and too much rain in the spring. But a few is better than none! One year, we only had one very large peach, and it was most delicious. Other years we have had bumper crops.

But my apricot tree died earlier this year.

My beautiful, lovely (and climbable!) apricot tree died also. It was old and in the last few years it only gave bad fruit which would fall to the ground and rot. Unfortunately it attracted bees and since I'm allergic to bees, we had to have it cut down.

My daughter use to sit in that tree and read.

I wonder how concerned I should be that all my Orthodox friends congregate at the Taverna/Ouzeri first thing in the morning... Oh well, since I'm here too, I'll have an oatmeal stout for breakfast - gotta keep it healthy, you know.

Oh, and when you all speak in tongues, aren't you supposed to have an interpreter?

It's a dish, similar to a pie with a fruit filling. They have a pastry layer on top, but not a bottom crust. They are usually served as dessert. I don't like them, myself... I find them excruciatingly sweet.

Can I just say that I am so fed up with the monopoly that Verizon has on the telephone system in this state!?!?!? So, after 2wks and 5 visits, we still don't have our DSL back up. AND, to top that off like a cherry, we have just blown our dial-up hours for the month, in 2wks! I'm not used to having a limit. I wish my husband had told me about the limit earlier and I would have been better about my time. I am so happy to be sitting at a coffee shop, getting all my podcasts from the last 2wks.

Following hurricane Isabel, there was a lot of wind damage around here--limbs falling into electric, cable, and telephone lines--leaving a lot of low-lying cables in my neighborhood. Following repeated attempts to 1) get a Verizon employee on the phone and 2) schedule maintenance people to come out and secure the lines higher than my head so I won't hang myself trying to mow the grass, I gave up. The best they could give me was an 8-hour window when I tried to schedule online. The best I got on the phone was "press 0 for the next available representative," which I'm assuming would pick up within an eight-hour window.

I called the cable company. The package I got from them included cable, high-speed internet, and telephone, and wound up costing me about $50.00 less per month than having all of that and Verizon as a phone service. The cable company was quite happy to place the call to cancel my phone service for me, and gave me a two-hour window in which to expect them at my home. They were on time, hooked up my modem, added splitters, rewired my phone jacks (because Verizon never did), and made me extremely happy that I was no longer a Verizon customer.

Don't know if that's an option for you, but could be worth investigating.

We had major Isobel issues, too. We had a live wire down blocking our street infront of the house, sending out sparks, and it took them 5 days to clear it up.
Husband refuses to get cable. The local cable internet services doesn't allow you to have a static IP adress, doesn't allow you to hose your own mail server and other junk that he does. Also, evidently, their uplaoding speed is really slow, which is an issue because he does a lot of work from home.
