I also like some of the "less remembered" Saints; so I'm pleased you're doing this !

Thanks to God for His gift to you !
I am still looking for a coptic version of St. Poemen the Dry to base my example on, so for now I am going to write one of (Saint) Abba John the Dwarf. His story is fascinating. St. Poemen the Dry was his spiritual father and told him to plant his walking stick in the ground and water it every day for 3 years. Abba John had to walk a very long distance to get the water. It was an overnight trip there and back. After three years the walking stick grew leaves and bore fruit. He then took some of the fruit to his brother monks and said to them "Taste the fruit of obedience." The challenge for me will be to write an icon of someone who is only 4 1/2 heads tall, whereas the figures in my icons tend to be 9 heads tall.

I am excited that I will be soon working on his icon. Some of the other saints that I will be beginning soon I know much, much less about. Those being St. Oliver Anconna and (Saint) Heiliger Wolfgang of Regensburg.

... though it likely doesn't apply in iconography, the "9 head rule" is used as a standard 'rule of thumb' in drawing/painting (secular) and the "aprox 4 head rule" is for children ...
The 9 head rule applies to Russian iconography, however Byzantine/Greek icons tend to be a bit shorter, about 7 heads tall. St. John the Dwarf was a dwarf and I just did some reasearch on line and most dwarfs seem to be about 4-4 1/2 heads tall. Thus the reason I am making him 4 1/2 heads tall. Like I said, I am excited to be doing this icon.
